Joey as an assistant coach.

Post: # 1691582Post Saint wagga »

I think it's become Chrystal clear in the last month that Joey should be retired at seasons end...I think he would be a great fit to slot straight into assist coaching role. He's clearly intelligent, excellent game understanding and a very good communicator. That's what I hope for going forward

Ps: we could easily accomodate him on the rookie list in a Schneider type role next year as well if the club want to go that way too

I agree good idea. We need to retire Joey and free up masses of cap space also.

Joey is very likely to end up in the media IMO

Some would argue that strategy, particular coming out of defence - has been a big problem for us this year.

Why do we think that Joey is the solution, rather than the cause?

I am pretty sure that post playing that Joey wants to earn his living by being in the media and not as a coach.

I have heard several recently retired players say that he is one of the better football brains going around.

Yes, br. There was an interview with Alan Richardson on the Saints site some months back. AR said that Joey was the most strategic thinker at the Saints and the coaches often bounce ideas off him re tactics, player roles etc.

True.

But he can earn say 80-120K as an assistant coach putting in 60+hours or week.

Or double or more in the media for fraction of the time.

So it would get down to if he really wants to coach.

From what I have seen he has worked very hard to build a media profile.
