4 Positives & 4 Negatives v WCE

Post: # 1691001Post carn_sainter »

Positives:
Sinclair:
turned the game in the second quarter. Was damaging all day long but a 10 minute patch in the 2nd kept us in it. Mighty performance.

Savage:
has been great since he came back. A really complete game today from Savage. Still a required player

White:
absolute gun in the making. Really complete. His hands in the air, kicking, everything. Massive one on one in the last quarter that he won more or less saved a goal. Will have a great 2018. Won't ever be as good as, but he is the mould of B Goddard.

Roberton's marking:
he has been a great mark for a couple of years now, so it's not surprising, but nevertheless deserves mention. Some really ripping grabs today.

Negatives:
Defending WCE kick-ins:
they executed set plays and we responded like the Generals watching the Harlem Globetrotters.

Executing our own kick-ins:
we have no plan when it's our turn to kick the ball in from a behind. It's farcical.

Set-up around and in front of the ball:
we set up well behind the ball but in front of the ball we too often had no options and around the ball we too often left dangerous space unchecked. We've been doing this all year. Just ask Robbie Gray. At stoppages, we rarely have anyone directing us, telling players to go there, watch that, check him. Their #3 was all alone in dangerous space at several stoppages today.

Jack Steven:
ineffective again

Overall, a very gutsy win, very exciting last quarter. Well done, Saints!

Good post

I wonder if Jack Steven is carrying extra weight. He still has the waddle style of running but he just doesn't look as quick. Maybe a groin issue like Armo?

I see that and raise 8+tives: came back;team effort; kicking for goal; won; great individual efforts; Billy L; only one 12 point play against us (11pts really but who's counting); won; there is justice against WCE; won - is that 8, great. And what about Dunstan's goal. Won. Then there was.....

Go U myT Sainters

Jack Steven had a hip/groin problem earlier on but fought back and had 11 possessions in the last quarter when it was there to be won (or lost).

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Jack was/is wearing a 'truss', viz padding around his middrift.
I've noticed it a few of times in different matches, when his jumper has been lifted when tackled. I'd say he has been wearing it since he had suffered punctured lung. Think that's the reason he looks a bit of a puddin' at the mo'. Last time I noticed he was wearing it was against the Swans.

He did get hurt today, and was clutching at his groin area, intitially I just thought he was re- arranging his jocks.
It wasn't until later when the commentators on Fox commentary said he had gone down into the rooms & hadn't reappeared for awhile & they thought he had hurt his groin. However, he didn't seem to be too inconvenienced in the final quarter, when he shook the tag of that ex-Sainter, Hutchings (? Spelling) and was more of the dynamic Jack, putting on the after-burners a couple of times.

Yes, the punctured lung would really hamper anyone. Not bad for plugs with Hutchins and Jackie boy both being from the house of plugs.
