Nicks new job

Post: # 1689796Post mr six o'clock »

Starting next the year the club ought to be paying nick and catherine a wage to make sure that there boys are ready with all necessary football and lifestyle skills , so once they're drafted they will be ready to play seniors from day one .
Of course not in a pushy over bearing way , just enough to ensure they are as good as what dad was .
Surely that's not to much to ask .
Oh and possibly work on half a dozen more

I get the impression Nick is very excited about the prospect of living a life on a Texas ranch with his wife and kids after football. And who could blame him?

With Maddie's Vision, I'm not so sure they will be living in Texas. But now have the freedom to do so when every they choose.

Ro$$ said Nick would coach the Saints one day.

If he wants to, he needs to go to another club (there'll be no shortage of them
seeking his services) and do an apprenticeship.

Just don't know that great players make best coaches - they struggle a lot and I guess in their eyes when something comes so easy to them it could be hard to understand why player 39 on your list can't grasp what your saying to him?

Don't know but history is littered with them
Matthews was an exception I suppose but most great coaches weren't great players... something in that I think not just weight of numbers etc

History would certainly seem to endorse your points, Teffers. However, watching the manner in which Nick conducted himself in the presser, and seeing how keen a student of the game he has been, ( he would probably say "still is"!) I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised to see him standing on the dais at the MCG holding up the premiership cup with his captain. I know I stand to be shot down here, but Riewoldt has a certain "quality" an "x factor" that Voss, Hird and a couple of others did not have ( with no disrespect to them) The maturity and mental toughness of this guy, makes PERFECT coaching material.

Hopefully one of the media groups will pay him a $squillion so that he has to stay in Austrlia to work.

Otherwise I fear that now football is over Catherine will work her womanly wiles and off to Texas back home to her folks they will go, with all those Riewoldt Juniors then getting swallowed up by the USA sporting System.

He'll be on Channel 7 next year. Been doing an apprenticeship all year.

Will actually probably start with this year's finals.

Good thinking. Ideally over a decent body size range, to make sure we don't end up doubling up on tall forwards at the expense of midfielders.

A few years back, when media and many supporters had Nic done & dusted, there was talk that the AFL & Nic were in talks about him co-ordinating the presence of the players playing AFL in USA. Also coaching of the players invited to attend the AFL the various AFL run sessions. That talk was around the traps not long after he was married & before young Jack came on the scene.
I wonder if that will be revisited by the AFL if he spends time in the US?

No way, all the same size, have two roos in the backline to roos on the wing, and three roos up forward

I guess it's not something for us to concern ourselves about. The guy has given us SO much more than we could have expected. I wish him well WHEREVER he decids to go

Not our concern I agree, but an important time for Nick and as we have become aware of can be a very difficult time. Hope he finds a purpose and lives happily ever after.
