Speaking on Monday, Lockett - who played with Barker and Harvey, and was coached by Baldock, said Riewoldt clearly belonged in that bracket.

"He's one of St Kilda's greatest ever players in my opinion. He'd have to be in the [club's] top five players," Lockett told Fairfax Media.

"[He's] been a true champion through and through in every way, shape and form of the game

Would be great if we could pilfer Plugger back from the Swines and getting him working with the lads who've continually sucked at their kicking for goal.

Roo was loyal as was Barker and a few others...I think there is a difference.

You'd have to kidnap him to get him back to Victoria.

I agree. If you take into account what the club did to keep Plugger on the field, he probably wasn't all that loyal in the end. That's not to say he wasn't one of the greatest who played for the Saints, however.

Loyalty counts for a lot in my book. Someone who is loyal in footy and is not swayed by money speaks volumes about their character.

I agree st lenny.

Plugger falls way down for me because of no loyalty.
As an example, Brendand Goddard...it is as if he never existed because of his disloyalty.

I'm the same with Luke Ball.

Loyalty only exists as a concept when it can be reciprocated. As it turns out, players are far more loyal than clubs. Clubs will delist, trade or otherwise get rid of players as they see fit. For St Kilda, this goes back a long way and we really have been one of the least "loyal" clubs in the League - ever. Read our history and you will see that. Or just ask Russell Greene or Nicky Winmar.

And what do we say about players from other clubs who have joined us? Are they disloyal slobs who don't rate? Players like Aaron Hamill and Fraser Gehrig or more recently, Jake Carlisle and Koby Stevens - and couldn't we have done with him last Saturday.

So it is against that background that a few players stand out for staying when big, or should I say, slightly bigger bucks are offered. Players like Robert Harvey, Nathan Burke and Nick Riewoldt.

BJ was pushed out, well under offer made which they new he wouldn't take . No different to Dal , cant pick and choose favourites.

Loyal add Breen to that list . Club would have folded if he and others didn't accept the 27.5c in the dollar back in the late 70's

its a job now and like any job when a better offer comes along many will move

If it wasn't for Watters BJ would still be here and that's a fact.
