but in our oh-so-close years he was netting a million a year ... when a bit more room in the salary capo might have allowed us
to improve our terrible bottom six (and ergo win a flag). I also wish someone would tell him not to glare at players when he
doesn't get lace-out delivery. That sort of attitude becomes contagious and you get players blaming others when they should be
just trying harder themselves.
The complete lack of respect for one of our greatest players is just putrid. You have no idea what he was earning at anytime in his career and secondly and any figures written on here is purely a guess. But if it was a mill he was worth every penny of that and he could've done a Goddard and jumped ship for a hell a lot more at multiple times over his career but chose loyalty first.

Roo is an absolute star and we will be poorer for it when he hangs up the boots
It was well reported that he was a million-dollar man in 2009-10. Sure, he deserved it, but somehow convincing
players to play for under their market value is what won the Cats three flags. It's certainly the only way we can
ever win one. God help us if we fall into the Richmond trap and start paying top dollar to players like Billings
based on a few good games.

Not as simple as leaving it up to him.

Players always want one extra year.
Agreed.

It's utter nonsense to suggest that he gets a his own set of rules.

The club doesn't have to be pricks about it, and like any negotiation you need to manage it well - but the club is rooting this sheep, not Riewoldt.

Good point.

Below is an excerpt from a meeting that occurred back in 2015 when the club was deciding on McCartin with the no. 1 pick. Clearly, your observation of Geelong resonated with Elshaug and Bains too...

"....We had our chance, too, but now here we are. And one of the reasons that's happened is because we spent all our money on too few players. We spent it on 10 players, and it left a big gulf. We had 55 per cent of the money going to 10 players."

"More," said Bains. "Just over 60 per cent."

"So you can see why we don't think we should go out and spend a lot of our money on just one player.
...."

You do not have much respect for Roo do you.

If Rooey stays he will not be on $800k.

Sadly the Kangas may be pushing Kelly's contract too high.
