Battle was a bit stiff not to get one more go but the rest are pretty hard to argue with,

I think Battle was a casualty of Gilbert being injured - they need a second ruck and without Membrey they probably cannot afford to use Bruce in that role.
Therefore Marshall gets a chance to play up forward and as a ruck option.

Bonus with Bruce too as with Marshall in, Bruce will not have to play the second ruck role which he struggles with.

EMERGENCIES
21 Ben Long
31 Brandon White

pleasing to see the club admitting mistake with Battle and doing the right thing.
makes you wonder though, I've seen Battle a few times at Sandy this year, and he was never ready.

Lets not forget that we traded
2016 pick 10 (became 11 as the draft progressed) + 2016 pick 68 (became pick 63) for
Hawthorn's 2017 first rounder presently pick 6 + Ben Long + Josh Battle

We need either one or both of Long or Battle to become a player of the future.
At present I fear we may have been mislead on Long.
He starred in the VFL finals series as a top up to the Dog's AFL listed players.
He may have been fortunate in that he got little attention from the opposition, ignored after all the AFL listed Dogs players.
But it is still too early to be sure on either of these kids.

North's 2017 4th rounder presently sitting at pick 56
We traded 2016 pick 50 (became 49) + St Kilda's 5th rounder presently pick 82 for
Norths 2017 4th rounder presently 56 + Ed Phillips + Kobi Stevens

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

How is debuting a young kid in a development year ever a mistake?

He has had a taste and realised just how fast the action is.
Now he knows the level he must reach to become a regular.

Push Riewoldt up onto a wing, then Bruce toward centre half forward.
We need to get separation of our tall forwards so they don't bring their opponents to pack marking contest.
Riewoldt and Bruce flying in the same contest is ridiculous.

Roo and Bruce etc have been flying together all season and I don't think the coach has done much about it- pretty undisciplined. I think Roo just needs to pull back and stay up the ground a bit and not go too deep. Bruce is a dead loss as a backup ruck and should just be a dedicated forward. I think Acres might be playing forward this game.

I have to wonder what the hell Aaron Hamill is thinking, while the forwards are watching a video review of a game.
Seeing Roo and Josh B spoiling each other. Do they just go <cough> and fast forward?
As it keeps happening, they must be ignoring it.

I can recall some nice marks where Rooey held off a defender so Baroose could mark, and vice versa.
But it happens as rarely as me getting an edible McMuffin from Maccas.

When Baroose is asked to become a ruckman, he doesn't compete well (not his fault, he don't have the tools)
and he seems to be flat and tired for the next 15 minutes in the fwd line.
It's bloody ridiculous to hurt him that way.

Gilbo is the only player who can do backup ruckman, as he has perfect judgement as well as manic energy for great 2nd + 3rd efforts

Changes show Richo is a good long term coach and a sensible risk taker/rewarder. Hard to argue any without being pedantic. Really like last couple of comments and Mr Whiskers'. There is a chance we will purr Sat. night.

Good to see the four omissions - we lose virtually nothing with them out.

Good changes IMO.
Battle had a taste and will be back.
DMac has slot of work to do to be a regular.
Biggest challenge of the year this week.
Win and we play finals and cast off the Swans hoo doo.
Dunstan and Acres need to bring their A game.
Go Saints.

the elephant in the room...Maverick Weller.

Remember him? He's in the leadership group.
Is he still carrying that ankle soreness?
He got 17 disposals for Zebs, and 8 tackles,
whereas Blake Acres got 26 and 8 tackles, but had a hard tag all day.
Go figure

Happy with the changes, need the harder bodies like Longer and Dunstan against the Swines , really missed Webster loading up from the backline... nice to see another debutant who's also physically strong bodied... starting to think we may be in with a chance.. but it's probably our biggest gig for the year

Well to be fair, Wellard was put into the leadership group when we were a bottom 4 team with no leaders.

Maybe (and hopefully) we've improved. And when that occurs, some get left behind.

I still maintain that Mav was bloody great last season and earned what he got... has been way down this season and deserved to be dropped.
No need to write him off, let him work his way back in.
