If this was Rance hitting Rooey it would be "that filthy dog should get 8 weeks".
Because its a Saints player it was an accident and he should be let off
Most objective posters on this site predicted 3-4 on Saturday night with hope of 2.
Get real guys, whether deliberate or accidental or just sloppy, Membery has a duty of care and hit Grimes in the cheekbone with an extended forearm.
Grimes was attempting to mark with eyes on ball and the forearm was extended and not tucked into a bump position.
The guys cheek blew up like a balloon and he left the field a short time later not returning.
Do you think he can walk away from that without significant suspension?
Is the suspension a St Kilda rule???
It seems the objective posters were wrong.
No it was 3 weeks - down to 2 with an early plea - if we choose to challenge it goes back to 3 unless we can prove something different (eg medium impact)
Take the 2 - suck it up - and hope that we can win the next two - and do it well.
It would have been nice to have Members playing against the Swannies though - poetic really!
Seems like the Mozart fan prematurely evaluated
Any objective reader would have interpreted "3-4 " as a final result of 3-4 weeks.
Which of course we all know is virtually impossible under the rules.
To be 4 weeks, it needed to be 'intentional', and as a result wold have gone straight to the tribunal.
If it was classed as 'careless' (which most 'objective' and sensible people would have thought) then it's a 3 down to 2 week offence.
Pretty straight forward. Even for non-objective people lacking common sense.
In fact, if coming up with 3-4 is the result of being objective and having common sense, maybe these traits aren't all they're cracked up to be. Maybe having a clue and not being a smart arse are better traits after all?
Here's the full MRP statement. Don't know why the HUN can't report this in full detail.
Tim Membrey, St Kilda, has been charged with striking Dylan Grimes, Richmond, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between St Kilda and Richmond, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday July 8, 2017.
In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.
Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Richmond Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with high impact to the head. The incident was classified as a three-match sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a two-match sanction.
