What was he doing so much better last year?

He's only played 18 games, it will take him time to adjust to the tempo. His only two games were against last years grand finalists.

In 2017 he looked likely. This year he just has not impressed at me at all. His kicking has also been poor, and I am including VFL games .

The problem I see is that Richmond only have one tall forward in roo2 and then medium/smalls in the forward line. Carlisle is a bit slow but is a big unit and can take roo2 but there really is no one for Brown to play on.

I reckon the horses for courses line should come in this week and Brown is omitted for team balance reasons and can come straight back in next week against the convicted's. The horses for courses should also apply to Longer/Hickey as tony74 said before the start of the season but never eventuated.

Brown is too large and too slow to play on any Tiger, so he is wasted. If Gilbo can't make it, we need someone about 192 cm with a lot of closing speed.
Do they get Blake to play as a defender? Was it the Suns game where he only got 8 touches, did he play down back?
That may have been AR trying him out for the Tigers game?

Richo may have been trying 8cres in defense but he is not a defender. The sooner he starts on the ground (as apposed to always starting on the bench) and also goes into the guts more often, then the sooner he will get better.

Maybe mav goes back?

Agree with brown and jake we are too tall down back but then again maybe that plays into our hands. If the pressure is on in the middle and we forever the long bomb they'll have trouble marking it

We're going to have to change how we set up in the backline or they'll be too quick for us.

Not the best game for Jimmy Webster to miss but he's not irreplaceable.

On one level, I think that if we take brown and Jake in, we'd be cut up but their smalls, but on another level, this is our best defence set up, and both play a different role, Brown locks the best forward down, and Carlisle intercepts. Knowing AR, we are sticking with what works, and could move Carlisle forward during the game if not

This. Richmond is a team that depends very much on a few key players. If we outnumber them two talls to one in the forward line, we'll see Martin going forward more often which will also help us in the middle.

We ought to have little problem with keeping the Tigers to a beatable score. Our challenge is going to be, as always, scoring enough points ourselves to get over them: particularly as the Richmond backline is better than most.

Interestingly the tigers have only kicked one more goal than us for the year, plus have a goal accuracy % slightly lower than ours @ 44%

Savage for Webster
Long for Weller
Even though I'd love Rice to come in instead as we need games going into guys like him instead of people like Savage who probably won't be here as the end of their contract.

Savage can't defend so has to be Rice or DMac. Hopefully it's Rice. If Gilbert is also out then both Rice and DMac. If we drop Mav, then Savage for Mav.

Stevens through the midfield, and would have said Gilbert when he goes forward, but now I don't know

Need for speed against the Tigers and then Bombers

Savage for Weller , inj/out of form

Dmac for Webster, susp

Hickey for Longer, time for that rotation

Long/Acres for Dunstan/Gilbert, if inj and Brown might not be needed this week

Too many changes for a winning team and Richo's pets but maybe over the next two weeks.

Acres might need a run in the twos first as he hasn't had a chance to prove himself yet

Given McKenzie has been emergency six times so far this season, it's clear Richo wants him in the team when the chance comes. I'll be surprised if he's not in this week.

You dont have to go back to the 80's. There are worse players on our list now.

Interesting, if they're right I'll go with:

Lonie
Webster
Dunstan

Could be Weller rather than Lonie and Gilbert rather than Dunstan. We'll find out soon.

Rice needs to play better for the Zebs. Then your spewing would be justified.

Brown is quite quick.

Runs in straight lines a bit though.

I would have thought he'd match up really well on Jack Reiwoldt.

Yeah think it stems from the fact that I see potential in the kid and am getting frustrated with players like Savage getting a gig when he is going backwards if anything. Don't want guys like Rice, paddy (100% want him to never leave) saying stuff this I'm off due to lack of games when others are coach's pet. Dmac by all means give the kid more games and see what happens as he can improve unlike savage...what you see is what you're going to get.

He was playing really well in the VFL earlier in the year and didn't get a call up, doubt he will now.

If Gilbert doesn't pull up, McKenzie is the ideal replacement, Ive already marked him as Gilberts replacement eventually. Savage comes in for Webster, easily.
