As I explained earlier on, the Tribunal does not have a choice whether to accept character references or not. The AFL treads a fine line in having players and clubs accept its tribunals and other penalty processes. The AFL has no more standing in law than any other sporting body. The club is the employer, not the AFL. The AFL has no ultimate power to stop a player from playing or earning money. In order to persuade players and clubs from using their statutory remedy - the courts - the AFL, based on previous court decisions, must demonstrate that the player or club has been afforded natural justice. As I also explained, this is not new. There have been many times when players and clubs have used the courts because they thought the AFL/VFL decision was wrong, or wanted to bypass the League - including us. Think Doug Cox or Silvio Foschini.

I reckon Houli should have considered his words more carefully, bringing in the issue of "hitting someone being against my religion" as providing grounds of some sort of mitigation, was not (in my humble opinion) the way to best serve his case.

But a players record must play a part in the sentence. If he is a repeat, repeat offender then he must cop a longer sentence than a 'virgin'. Having seen the vision for the first time I thought he was trying to break free from being held back and flung his arm backwards. 2 weeks seems OK to me.

Scum lawyer for bikie tried to pin some blame on pub by saying "they should have used shatterproof glass, so the pub's owners are culpable"

This is the sort of rubbish lawyers get up to. Bottom feeders. Morals governed by who is paying them.
