Any Recollections of a Saints Win After the Siren?

The Swines' pinching that win last night over the Injectors, with a quick kick into the teeth of goal and mark by that ginger chap with only seconds left has me trying to remember if we ever won a game in similar fashion. I certainly remember us being on the receiving end of it, 2005 at Subi with Justin Longmuir getting the Dockers over the line, much to the pleasure of Umpire Head-Job is still relatively fresh in my mind.

It would pretty hard on the old ticker, but seeing someone like Paddy kicking a winning goal after the siren would be pretty exhilarating stuff.

Joey kicked a goal against Melbourne a couple of years ago, we snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat....but that may have been in the last few seconds before the siren.

I can remeber this game very well. I was there with my partner who is a Hawk supporter. The guy in front of me, a Hawthorn supporter, ripped off his carf, threw it on the ground and stomped off in disgust. I still got his scarf!

Yep. 1978 at Arden St. I was behind the goals at the Gasometer end, to which we were kicking. When the siren sounded , we were a few points down, and Rob had a set shot from about 50, slightly right of centre. Crowds swarmed onto the ground before he took his kick. The ball landed in a sea of people in the goalsquare. I assumed it had to have been touched by a North player. I was only a few rows back in the crowd ( just behind their cheer squad) and did not even see it reach the goal line. I was staggered it was signalled a goal.

It was our only win in an eight week mid season slump , before we stormed home to miss the finals by 2 points.

The reason i was behind the North goals is that I used to always move to the end we were kicking ( except at Essendon and Collingwood- i did not want to die !) ; enjoyed watching Georgie Young and Rex Hunt ( and Gary Lofts, who was a very good HFF) slotting goals

It was at best a "dodgy" decision.
Perhaps the ump was pissed off that it was mostly Norf supporters invading "his" square.

But we came from nowhere that day.
Pretty sure we were about 4 goals down with 5 mins to play, and then stormed home.
As mentioned 1978 was our "if only" year - a year destroyed by the post-Essendon flak that derailed our mid-season.

I was at the 78 game at Arden street and also the last match of 2001 when Barry Hall kicked a goal after the siren.
I seem to remember a match in I think 1987 against Bulldogs at Moorabbin when Lockett kicked a 50 metre goal to the South Road end to win the game.
It may not have been after the siren but it was in the dying seconds.
Does anyone else remember this?

I listened on 3UZ who did a little bit of footy between race calls. They were actually calling the game when Elliott took the shot. The commentator said it either dropped short or went through for a point, either way North had won. Then they were racing at Doomben and it was five minutes before they got back to Arden St. to announce the Saints had won.

Also, did Roo miss a shot after the siren against the Bombers in 09?

Can't believe I forgot about Barry Hall's last kick in a Saints guernsey way back in 2001. I actually missed that game. Was at the Slayer concert happening at Festival Hall that night. About a week later 9-11 happened!

Steven Baker - would have been interesting if his kick for goal was accurate and the AFL stripped us of a win instead of a draw.

Bakes was also involved in the result of the 2001 win after the siren, with his incredible dive to get a finger tip to the ball, saving a crucial Hawthorn goal.

Yes, it was in round 20 of 2009. His shot for goal was by no means an easy shot. He was about 50 metres out on a bit of an angle. If the kick was true we it would have been 20 wins from 20 games. Winning the first 19 games was still a monumental winning streak.

No, Plugger kicked that goal to put us ahead about a minute before the final siren. I think he kicked his 100th goal for the season only moments before.

Chad Davis was playing in that win after the siren game in 2001. Wasn't he the son of '66 premiership player Allan Davis?

I looked it up on his wikipedia page, but there was no mention of it.

The wikipedia page did, however, mention this bizarre incident he was on the receiving end of in 2002:

Chad Davis gained further noteirity in the 2002 season while playing for St Kilda's VFL affiliate Springvale when he was bitten on the scrotum by Port Melbourne's former Sydney Swans AFL star Peter Filandia. Filandia was subsequently suspended for 10 matches and ordered to undergo counselling before resuming playing.

Technically speaking there was an after the siren win before the 1913 one.
In R1 1900 we won the game 6 days after the siren. The game had been declared a draw (our first non loss in the VFL after three seasons of losses) but the goal umpires had failed to register a point scored on the 3/4 time bell. We appealed and on the Friday night the VFL amended the result to a one point win so it went down as our first ever win and the first win after the final "siren".

Jumped the fence along with a couple of thousand others when he kicked the 100th.
I think one of those goals (or maybe it was against Collingwood later that season) was a snapshot running towards the members stand over his shoulder from outside 50 at the Highway end - just amazing.

A great day. One of those games where Big Tone just dominated. Kicked 8 for the day. With all the talk now of how long it takes for a KPF to hit their straps, it is amazing that by the end of that season he kicked around 350 goals and was still only 21.

Only 30 metres and on a 45 degree angle. He grimaced when the siren sounded and, from that second, was never going to kick it. It went wide right. Many players at every level spend their youth dreaming of taking a shot after the siren to win the game. I guess Nick never did and he still dreads having to take a shot from the same spot.

The field umpire (Curly) and goal umpire in the Round 22 2001 win were most kind to us. Pity they didn't umpire in the 2009 GF.
