Gary Ablett is out of Sundays game with a calf strain. That's a help!

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

I agree with you stonecold, Hickey's form this year doesn't warrant selection over Longer, but I wouldn't be making it a crusade.
It's not a crusade, I'm just stating the facts, as are those that really matter, The Selection Committee!!!!!

Jack Steele not playing this week apparently

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/early-m ... f1e6852686
RICHO WANTS MORE FROM STEELE

JACK Steele won’t receive a senior recall this weekend, despite being named on St Kilda’s extended bench for Sunday’s match against Gold Coast.

Alan Richardson said Steele would ply his trade for Sandringham Dragons in the VFL for another week at St Kilda’s members forum on Thursday night.

Steele was the Saints’ barometer for pressure earlier in the season, the club’s most prolific tackler. But his lack of polish has frustrated the St Kilda coach.

Richardson indicated the ex-Giant would get his spot back in the team once he improved his disposals efficiency.

Despite this, Richardson said the club loved Steele’s grunt work.

This is the second time that Richo has made a public announcement about Steele in advance of the finalisation of the team. He doesn't seem to do it for any other player: what's going on exactly? Is there another agenda?

Sandringham Dragons.

He should kill it at that level...

nothing less than 50+ and at least six goals.

Richo should never comment publicly on specifics in that way.
I imagine he is justfying why Dunstan keeps his spot.
"Polish"?
Then drop Membrey, who has trouble kicking goals.
Just proves he has favourites and not everyone is equal at St Kilda

He obviously would have told Jack privately first.
I think it's probably the right call as there wasn't a VFL match last week, and he hasn't been able to work on what the coaches wanted.

Work on it during training then.
Training and VFL are both below AFL level,
show it in training

Carlton have had 4 rising star nomination this year.
Maybe our depth is really not all that good!
Unfortunately it isn't. Bulldogs, Melbourne, Carlton, and Essendon have done far better these last four years.
Very deflating, especially seeing as our rebuild is supposed to be two years ahead of Carlton's.
Gee some of you guys are so quick to moan and complain about everything.

Who cares how many players we have debuted and how many have won rising star nominations? So far this year we have seen:

Ross approaching elite status
Billings not that far behind him
Webster stepping up a level
Sinclair make it as a first team player
Acres continuing to improve
Carlisle, Brown, Stevens and Steele come in and hit the ground running (and how many endless whinges did I read on here last year of "Carlisle will never make it now, we wasted our pick on him, oh woe is me!)
Longer potentially looking like an AFL ruckman
Bruce dropped and (admittedly only on the basis of one game) seeming to get the message and get with the program
McCartin showing a few glimmers
Geary stepping up as captain

We've also seen a few players showing something at VFL level: Marshall, Rice, Freeman and the two Irishmen.

Dunstan, Savage, Lonie, Minchington and Wright maybe aren't going to make it, but that's not certain (particularly with the first three). And Joey and Riewoldt clearly haven't got too much longer to go. Our forward line still isn't good enough, and, with Goddard constantly on the injury list, we're a bit short of talls down back.

It's not a premiership-winning lineup yet, but we'll be going into the next trade period with some good draft picks and a lot of money to splash around.

I can't help feeling optimistic. Sorry.
Never apologise for optimism.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Lonie is lucky he stays.
The only reason Steele is out, is because the coaches have a special love for Dunstan
and have put him ahead of Steele. I personally don't see any upside in Luke, neither do a fair few on here.
The coaches do, and as much as I want Steele ahead of Luke, I have to sit and grumble and remain unhappy.

What happens when Armo returns?
Armo/Dunstan/Stevens/Steele/Ross - can't use them all. Ross picks himself, the others are just subject to eeny-meeny-miny-mo

You may dislike Dunstan but if you watch the replay he had a very solid game and his disposal was good leading to a couple of our goals.

Might as well do the McCartin trade at years end if we're not going to play him

Steele no recall, mav keeps his spot again, I'm sorry but bull**** at the selection table.

Richo could be sacked at the end of this year.

Some of these decisions have been horrid.

No Steele but Dunstan stays?!?

This season has been super disappointing.

I agree with your good self and jonesy.
We see the blue sky, when it's blue, but since that Swans game, the clouds have set in for the long run.
A lot here think it will blow over and the sun will shine, but they are in denial.

Most clubs will rotate players due to poor form, the Dogs dropped Libba,
but our coaches seem to think everything's just peachy and the team just needs a little tweak sometimes.
"The best 22" is a nice phrase, but it's like my ex-missus who used to say
"I hate how piggeries treat pigs, it's far too cruel, so I refuse to eat pork" but she'll eat bacon because "oh, I'm only having 3 slices"
Just how committed are you to the cause, I ask the coaches

at the risk of making this thread longer than the runway at the end of Fast n Furious 7

Crownbet has the Coasters at $5.50 for the win.
On the back of Baldy pulling out (I'm not being lewd)

They forget that the Saints will be complacent and think "No Gaz, this will be easy, and it's at Etihad too"
Crazy crazy odds,
and the line is 35.5? That's us to win by 6 goals ? What are the bookies smoking?

$5.5....

The club can have all its marketing gimmicks it likes, 40+k members etc etc, but no one is going, crowds are s***. We are fast becoming North's fiercest rival as the most irrelevant club in Melbourne .
We play football that makes your eyes bleed. We sold the farm in a drafting sense by using pick 1 on a power forward. Three years down the track we plonk him in the reserves because we play a game that is so purile plugger wouldn't kick more than 3. Last years prize recruit jack Steele who has been good to very good most games at 21 has been dropped after one bad game. You've got huff and puff Weller who has been insipid in every game this year keeps his spot . Zero integrity at the selection table . Richos a bloke you'd happily have a beer with and call a ripping bloke, but atm, looking less than convincing

Supposedly the great developer of kids. I've seen Luke Dunstan come to the club as an 18 year old emerging beast in his first 6 months,4th season looks barely afl standard. All of these kids show a lot early, then plateau . Billings, slowly emerging after 2 years in the wilderness, but even he is a slow burn considering his enormous talent and ability to find the ball, once an elite kick on goal, now lucky dip.
Acres- plateaued this year.

It's a worry
