An Already Developed Ruckman?
My patience is wearing thin with both Longer and Hickey. I think one of them will need to go. I'd say Hickey has more value, as his skills are far better. I hate to say it, but Billy is a lumbering unco.
Are there any proven ruckmen who could be worth trading for or are even becoming free-agents soon?
The club rarely recruits decent ruckmen. Michael Gardiner turned out to be a real bargain and was probably our last good ruckman.

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
I think Rowan Marshall might trump the pair of them. Lewis Pierce was out hope, but like a few others, he's, inexplicably gone backwards. You're right though, Sainternist. We need a great ruckman. I thought that last year the Hick was our man. I know, despite a better showing this year, Billy is not. He'll be be good trade bait at the end of the year. Hickey, Marshall and Peirce are the future, maybe even Holmes. Unless we pluck someone from nowhere. Share your concern at this stage.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
I reckon Hickey and Billy will be shopped around and one will go if we can get a decent pick in return. If they stay, then both Holmes and Pierce would have to get the chop you'd think, and possibly draft a 4th ruckman with a late pick or rookie.

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
By last season's end, Hickey was regarded as one of the more exciting ruck prospects of the competition, both internally and externally.
Despite his disappointing start and injury setbacks this season, I think it would be a bit of a knee jerk response to trade for another ruck, unless an established one was to come as either a free agent or a bargain trade.
I still believe that Hickey is a exciting prospect and can further develope into a very good player.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
a few hours ago, when the site was down for scheduled maintenance,
I was thinking exactly the same thing.
So I went looking at who was doing well in the VFL - ruckmen wise.
These rucks had a nice game, apparently
Northern Blues:...... Andrew Phillips (15 touches and 44 hitouts) ...203 cm
26 y.o. in July, drafted from Giants, total career games 31
Collingwood: ..........Lachie Keeffe (stats not given)..................204 cm
27 y.o career games 40 (was banned for 2 years under drug ban until Feb 2017)
Gold Coast: ...........Dan Currie (12 disposals, one goal)...............201 cm
28 y.o. only 8 career games, give this one a miss
Western Bulldogs.....Tom Campbell (17 possessions and a goal).......200 cm
25 y.o., 39 career games, signed till end of 2018

of that time helping my housemate find a cheap car under $1800, and we spent (wasted)
many many fruitless hours visiting car yards, covered in silly coloured pennants and salesmen that looked like Sir Les Patterson
trying to tell her "this is crazy!"

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
can we find a 204cm diamond in the rough in the Wimmera League
or EDFL?
Back in the 80's when Kim Hughes was Aussie cricket captain, he famously said
we should find a young rangy raw fast bowler, a beach bum type,
somebody with just raw blistering pace

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
I'm pretty sure Nick Meese from Williamstown is the dominant RUck in the VFL
VFL team of the year last year. Dominates hitouts and tackles a lot
Only problem is that he is like 29 already

we drove the old Cortina up the highway and offered him $80 a game
at the ripe old age of 28?

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
The Lions pulled one out of Casey VFL last year using #37 in the Rookie Draft.

Not sure if he is any good but he is massive. May end up a monster.

Hickey over Longer any day of the week.
Longer needs a rest after Hickey has more game in the VFL.

Still think Lewis has the potential to become our number 1 ruckman.

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
If Longer wasn't on our list and didn't have a contract to play in 2017/18...repeat: If Billy was not wallowing for close to 12 months in the Zebs team, would we have dropped Hickey after a couple of average or poor games? In other words, was the decision to drop the guy who had clearly cemented himself in 2017 as our number 1 ruckman, purely based on his form?
Did Sam Jacobs get dropped after a poor match or two? Did Max Gawn get dropped if he had a bad match or two?
Were we rewarding Billy for his oustanding form or were we punishing Tom for his poor form? Did Hickey have to make way because the match committee wanted Billy to given opportunities so that we have options and Billy's trade value is increased?

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
I can see why Geelong and Hawthorn don't even bother drafting ruckmen anymore, they just wait and trade one in when they are 23+
With a list size of only 40, it's a burden to carry blokes for five plus years who can't contribute to the side.
Pierce has two more years to run on bis contract, making 7 years… if he doesn't make it that is a hell of lot of investment down the drain.
Have no idea why we put Holmes on the main list either?
Please no more ruckmen unless we de-list or trade out 2 as well.

Re: An Already Developed Ruckman?
I believe in Hickey and reckon he should be back as soon as he regains some touch from his injury layoff. Big Billy will need to be (managed)
