As good as he is, it's still about Christian, but good luck to him!!!!!

No tank either, what about Jack Watts, how'd he go today?????

Petracca was a lot better than Watts :)
However, Watts did cover good amount of ground to gather the ball and kick the sealer on the run. Doubt Paddy has the agility to have done that either. Can't deny what Con says about Paddy.....'has a poor tank, is not that fast and he isnt all that agile'.

Interesting, isn't it. The maligned No.1 kicked the sealer. The moral of the story is don't write them off too early.

Watts was drafted as a forward at number 1, and when it quickly became apparent he wasn't good enough in that position he reinvented himself as the player he is now. Unfortunately Paddy has no plan B, if he can't crack it as a power forward then he's not going to make it anywhere.

Saying that though I think Paddy should be played for the rest of the year, give him the best chance to show what he's got.

Good post. There is no plan B with Paddy. He won't be able to re-invent himself if he doesn't make it as a power forward. Watts is a good athlete. Paddy isn't.

What's your definition of quickly? He's been there 8 years and only has a run in the ruck cause Fawn and Spencer have been out injured!!!!!!

Some interesting comments on "Ön the Couch" last night about one position power forwards (Schache, Boyd, McCartin) - Gerard Healy (I think) was suggesting that with the quickness and nature of the current game that he expects that teams will bypass these players as top draft picks in future in favour of more mobile hybrid forwards who can kick goals and apply defensive pressure.

I think the 'Plan B' with Paddy is what we're currently seeing. And I think that's why he's struggling to a degree.

His Plan A would be to park himself in the F50 and be a target. But that will limit his career if that's all he's got. So he's being taught to play that role, plus learning to play a high half forward role too. It doesn't suit him, but it will help his career.

Could be time to give Paddy a run in the backline- seen a lot of forwards turn into great backline players, at least he has footy smarts, top skills and and it might teach him a bit more about accountability and working off the ball.

I think our former captain would agree

I'm thinking if it's hairy it's probably saggy as well.

Our forward line structure/coaching has been terrible this year. You can see they are still yet to figure out how to work Membrey, Paddy and Bruce in their together. If you watch the crows game its too congested when around the 50m arc. too many mids and small forwards crowding the space hence the dreadful "hotspot" approach. Clear it out Membrey and Bruce are elite markers of the footy and paddy has shown flashes of that at times as well.

I remember the Giants game, where the F50 seemed to be very open and clear.
The forwards need space to run and lead.
Hamill has a lot to answer for if he is the architect of this stupid practice.

We all know it's still early for Paddy..we have made some good recruitment decisions in the past..a few misses...just the way it is. 2018 and some nice picks will tell us how good our recruiters are..

PS Stonecold..what have you done with Bluthy..hidden the body ? He's nowhere to be seen.

Stonecold is innocent. He was drinking with Plugger66 and Stinger at the exact time that Bluthy went swimmin with the fishes

He/she actually visited here yesterday,
so he/she is still around, if only in spirit.

Not sure what you mean Fiery ;-)

I do drill rather large holes on building sites and concrete them in for a living, so easy to hide a body, but, I'll plead innocent in this case if anyone suggests otherwise!!!!!

Out of interest what do people see as Paddy's attributes?
Just pretend you are a recruiter or player manager and I have never seen him play. How would you sell him to me?
(Hint: Try not to use the term 'crashing packs').

Hello, I'm Paddys' manager, take a seat, can my secretary get you a coffee or a line of coke?

Paddy can't be tunnelled (because he doesn't really jump)
Paddy is a nice mark if the ball is delivered out front at the perfect spot
Paddy is an accurate kick (some of the time)
Paddy draws the best big defender to free up the other marking forwards
(until another Saint forward proves to be a threat, then any other defender can take him)
Paddy is a #1 draft pick.
(Look, Tom Cruise makes average movies, but his name brings in big money for production, so the tag of #1 has to count for something)
Paddy fits the profile of the Saints perfectly-
Look at your former players like Beau Maister, David Gamble, Spencer White, Fergus Watts, Milan Faletic, Jodi Arnol...

An old-fashioned full forward. Good hands and at his best when given space to lead. Kicking a work in progress. Good football brain.
