The free against Ross was nearly the worst free you'll see. Only thing is tonight was a highlight reel of cheating. Three minutes to go a Crows player is spinning and bail King then gets tackled to the ground puts the ball on the ground out in front of him and play on.

Blocking yes it's a rule of some sort - a bit in the eye of the beholder - just seems to have only gone one way tonight - It's the same as the incorrect disposal or dropping the ball is not applicable vs the saints, I am getting sick and tired of watching some of these games - I usually start off by saying " ok there's potentially a free there as long as you pay it all night for both teams" all too often I am finishing the match by swearing like a maniac at the decisions - we were out played and would have lost no doubt convincingly- but the wrong end of the ump virtually every week is just tedious

For me it's just the inconsistencies. I'm all for setting a standard but the standard must follow both ways all night. This is what is most annoying. I don't care if the opp just a cheap free. Just pay it the other way as well.

Im also sick of the media and the peeps calling the game. Should always have a special comments person of both teams. I could not give a stuff about Sloan or Tex getting into the game. As dismal as we were it wouldnt hurt for them to talk about us.

Regarding the Ross free:
I don't think there's anything in the rule book about looking at your opponent. Ross didn't push him, just positioned his body to his advantage and nearly marked the ball.

But the worst bit about the whole thing was the advantage call. When the whistle blew, the ball was at Carlisle's feet. He didn't bother to pick it up and Walker runs in from 5 metres away, picks it up and plays on. That is not continuous play! The advantage rule is just applied so arbitrarily. It's been a joke for over 30 years. One of the few things that is done better in soccer.

3 ways to avoid it

1-don't bomb it in to an outnumber ... lower the eyes
2-get separation from your defender to avoid the screen... be mobile
3-kick to advantage sis of the forward. For a screen, the defender must get between drop of the ball and the 3rd man up... simple don't allow that by kicking to advantage of your teammate


My personal favourite
4-take the person out screening, either with a blatant hold/throw or just smash into them. Then just let the ump know after the free kick against that you didn't have an opportunity to compete for the ball. They are going to mark it uncontested anyway, make the screener pay the price for blocking!
