How many players do we have on our List - excluding Rookies?

From the side listed at the head of this thread there are 11 Listed AFL players - then Pierce on the interchange list and 3 Rookies

I have not seen the opposition side to compare the two sides

So near half this side are "top up@ players, for some reason or other

What we do know is that today's AFL side was missing some players hence fielded some players who would normally be in the VFL side

So the result may be expected allowing for an analysis of the opposition

What we are looking at is the performances of Bruce, Goddard, Rice, White, Lonie, Dunstan, Long and, of course, Freeman

And the progress of those on our Rookie List

So just half the side on the park

That is the relevance of the VFL competition

There are not even Under 18 players to promote from the Clubs Under Age side

the way the agreement is structured this year, it is like comparing apples to apples. This is our reserves playing.
We'll never have our own team, we continually allow ourselves to get knocked back all the time and just run from an argument without a whimper.
A great example is the Women's team, we had all our ducks in a row and still missed out!!

More interested in hearing how Bruce went... though doesn't look like the ball was down his end very much

Something is wrong down at Sandy after this result and last week. Footscray had the ball go though the sticks 42 times compared to our 14.

Did any of the senior players put in an effort to indicate they want to get back to the senior side?

We wouldn't have AFL listed players playing in the Development league.

The VFL team would play the same gameplan & structures.

Assuming they played at Moorabbin, they'd also be playing on a more AFL like ground rather than a small oval next to the beach.

They would play on a variety of grounds that exist in the VFL

Moorabbin does not even have facilities?

They (Sandy) have a coach who is employed by StK. they play

Players play in the Dev league because that's where their ability and experience suggests they should be? If they were good enough they'd get a senior VFL game.

StK would have to employ 10-15 players to play as top up players, to cover for injury/suspension. Where do they come from?? Where do they go if StK players are fit? Does a Myke Cooke (who is clearly better than some StK listed players) just sit games out and only play when required.
Some AFL reserves teams in the VFL have had huge issues at times (Rich and Coll)

Sandy have been a finals contender for the last few years... take out Jones, Cockie, Cooke, TDL, Fischer, Dowler, LeGrice, Magner and a few others
They'd have been terrible (our seconds)

Sandy deal was rejigged.

Saints can now play whomever they like, in whatever position they like in Sady Firsts. Team is coached by a St Kilda Coach in the manner that StKilda wants. ie You have seen 4 ruckman all play in the one Sandy Team this year.

So to all intents and purposes it is already a StKilda VFL team.

I wonder if anybody went to that game, and can they tell us if they spotted
a morose (unhappy) bloke wearing #40.
He sports a man-bun. About 102 kg, 197 cm tall, bit of facial hair...

Be interested to see how many times he touched the ball
(not counting the times he handed the ball to an ump for a ball-up)

I saw a fair bit of it. Holmes went okay insofar as getting his hand to it was concerned. The second it hit the deck we were ouitclassed. The Dogs second string midfield was simply too skilled and, in particular, too quick for ours.
Their stats make for revealing reading.
McLean had 38 touches and 11 tackles.
Honeychurch has 31 touches and kicked 3/5.
Webb had 35 touches.
Libba disappointed with 24.

This doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know. Our midfield depth is among the shallowest of all sides.
For mine Freeman still looked tentative. His numbers are improving but his level of involvement is way off for now.

We were looking at Honeychurch in the off season. Thought we were a chance to bag him.

Goddard coming back from long term injury, I suppose you cant expect too much at this stage.
N.O'Kearney must be close, he has been consistent to a while now.
Dont know if anyone other than Lonie and O'Kearney did enough to warrant a seniors game.

Maybe if we put them together they might have one full hamstring

Gees Bruce is seriously out of form isnt he, I hope he can find it again soon because the side needs him. I wonder if his form dictated the bomb it long method when going forward. He would always provide a contest but hasnt looked like marking them this year.

Goddard is another who is returning from injury but has stagnated and not improving his numbers. Given the amount of play that would have been in Sandi's defence you would like to see him get more of it than that?
