Staying in the eight this week
First of all, it doesn't matter if we are in the 8 after round 7. Only the final ladder counts
But It makes everyone feel a little bit better so here are the calculations.
We need to stay above Melbourne or have West Coast or Footscray drop below us. We could also technically climb above Port or drop below Essendon or Freo but they seem unlikely.
Eagles must lose
West Coast's equation y = Eagles x = Port
y<1.09x-22.07
If Port scores 70 Eagles must score 54 or less
If Port scores 100 Eagles must score 86 or less
Dogs must lose
Footscray's equation y = Footscray x = Tigers
y<1.09x-8.62
If Richmond scores 70 Bulldogs must score 67 or less
If Richmond scores 100 Bulldogs must score 99 or less
If Melbourne wins
Melbourne's equation y = Demons x = Hawks
y<1.09x-2.48
If Hawthorn scores 70 Demons must score 78 or less
If Hawthorn scores 100 Demons must score 111 or less
We only need one of these results to go our way to stay in the 8. I'll be watching with my calculator from 4:35 this afternoon.

Though there is the "footy belief" that who is in 8 does not change much after Round 7.

Round 6 is the norm discussed - but reality is over the AFL period there are 1.8 changes. 11 times 2 or 3 teams have come in. Only once (last year) has there been no change.saintsRrising wrote:kosifantutti wrote:First of all, it doesn't matter if we are in the 8 after round 7. Only the final ladder counts

Re: Staying in the eight this week
We showed last night we are good enough to beat anybody in the league: indeed, we've looked like winners well into all of our games this year and, if we'd taken our chances better, we could conceivably be 7-0.
If we have a reasonable run with injuries, keep playing as well as we showed we can last night, and, better still, lift our conversion rate of kickable shots on goal, we will easily make the top 8 and - as Bruce McAvaney suggested - we could even make the top 4.
So, whether or not we are still in the 8 tomorrow night doesn't matter at all.
We're good enough to feature in some September action. If things turn out as they should, we'll be there.

No luck with the Eagles but the Tigers were off to a bright start.
And we are only two games off first place with Adelaide losing today.

The Dees will win by a goal, Sydney will beat Brisvegas and we will be currently holding pick 1 AND in the eight!

Re: Staying in the eight this week
It is a tough choice.
If Melbourne down the Hawks then that keeps their first round pick looking peachy for us.
But more than likely we will be competing with Melbourne for one of the last coupe of places in the final 8.

If Melbourne wins by a couple of points, we stay in the 8 and Hawthorn get closer to the number 1 pick. Win- win.

Re: Staying in the eight this week
Such an amazing weekend....we went in at 3-3 against the GWS Giants, in all probability we may have had an honourable loss and we would have dropped to about 10th or 11th on the ladder, but still hopefull of sneaking into the bottom part of the eight.
But we were fantastic against the Giants, certainly a base that will give us confidence we can beat them. Then Adelaide gets smashed, and both the 5-1 Cats and Tigers drop games and no longer look like top 4 teams.
We are only ONE game away from 2nd on the ladder, and with the confidence that we can beat anybody if we bring our best game. We've got the Dogs in about 3 weeks and the Crows after the bye, and on this weekends form we have a real chance to win both.
In 24 hours our season has gone from battling to make the eight to a serious premership chance.

Re: Staying in the eight this week
It's not this week I'm concerned about. Depending on results (especially our game), we could be 5th or 10th after next week. 4th "mathematically possible".

Eagles v Bulldogs next week. A decent win would put us 7th.

Re: Staying in the eight this week
To be honest I think we should expect to play finals from here. 12 wins plus % shoukd get us in and I think we shoukd win 8 more games between now and the end of the season. Would be great experience for the guys who haven't been there, as well as making us a more attractive destination for prospective recruits.
