Good old CW will be frothing over this news.

Hmmm I guess I'm happy to give it another shot. Would be nice to make it over for the weekend and watch the Saints play. It's not so great from an armchair perspective back in Melbourne, however.

What a pointless waste of time.

Also, what's our bloody deal at Etihad like now that the AFL own it? We shouldn't need to be playing games in NZ if its a decent deal.

Not sure the AFL have changed the terms at all - just nominated a few 'bonus' games - higher percentage of the gate if they hit certain numbers in nominated games. Typical - if you have a club needing a bone thrown their way occassionally then why let it off the leash?

100% Don't care about NZ or India. Both a waste of time. If Hawthorn can have 70k members then we should be able to muster at least 50k. Going overseas is an utter waste of time. Concentrate on winning games in Victoria and interstate.
Look what happened to Telstra when they set up operations in India!

Is this true? And if so, WTF? Was the Stadium deal discussed at all at the last AGM? Did they mention their NZ fetish at the last AGM?

This is the deal we should have at Etihad:

* 18,000 crowd we break even, in excess of that and we profit.

* We get a large slice of takings for merchandise, food and drink.

Anything less than the above means we are getting raped and should be telling Gilligan to go f**k himself in the most forceful of manners. I couldn't give a rats if Nth Melb & The Bulldogs choose to be raped.

We should be demanding a reasonable deal or refuse to play there. Step up Matt Finnis or go away.

That is the only possible positive in the entire farce that has been Operation Kiwi. What a waste of time and money. If playing one game over there every two years gets us Dusty, then do it. Then as soon as we've got him, we abandon the whole stupidity of it.

Politics doesn't quite work that way.
The inefficiencies of Dockland stadium mean the break even will always be high.
Gen admission patrons enter on level 1 which means every L1 aisle needs to be monitored with attendants as is level 2 and with the greedy grab to reserve the first 6 rows on level 3 again every aisle needs an attendant.
The ticket system is painfully slow as you wait and wait for your ticket to be printed - as opposed to having a pile of pre printed GA tickets ready to hand out. So they need a much higher ratio of ticket windows to service the queues.
All these sorts of things make it highly inefficient and expensive to run.

That is why we sought out the NZ option which earnt us more in one game than all our home games at Docklands did.
That maybe an indictment of the Docklands stadium but it is political reality.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Exactly! Great point Enrico.

In Saint's revenue terms...
8 Dockedlands home games
=
2 MCG home games
=
1 Kiwiland home game!

26,000 crowd at Hillbilly Park = $800,000.
26,000 crowd at Docklands = $75,000 - that we pay to Dockedlands!

Absolutely ridiculous!!!

This is just one reason why we need our own boutique home ground.

And that will be JO, in funky town. 8-)

BTW, everybody's favourite contrarian, the late great Pluggsywuggsy, always like to made an issue of the cost of building up a stadium. But there's hardly a need to do so.

Tomorrow night. The big Friday night blockbuster. Showcase game. Televised nationwide (worldwide?). It's the Wogans vs the Poodles. And it's at Manuka Oval in Cantberra.

Ground capacity - 13,550 public servants (and one Saintsationalist Russian embassy official :D ) http://manukaoval.com.au/
(Only a couple of years ago for the Espy Rockdogs v PBS/RRR Megahertz Community Cup showdown... JO packed in a crowd of 26,000.
Or, in public service terms - two Manuka Ovals worth. :D )

I've had a gutful of the two faced AFL and their latest Friday night agenda of bringing the game outside of Victoria on the prime slot. Give those numpties that live outside the main footy state 4 games a year on Friday night and the rest at Jihad or the MCG.

Yes we need to create our own unique markets. Rugby is a stupid sport. Lets get these kiwi's enjoying the choicest sport in da world. We've got a few kiwis in our team now. Lets market them. It could be a long grind, but if we can get some inroads, there is a whole country there that could turn out way. Remember Tassie and how useless it seemed? Deja Vu.

Wow. If it wasn't for the lack of spelling and grammatical errors, you could be channelling P66 there, saynta.

I realise that you're extremely dubious re JO, having seen first hand the treachery of the St K Cricket Club. And damn well fair enough too.
So of course, the return to JO would have to make that sure those bastards are neutered.

Dockedlands continues to bleed us. Those financial figures above don't lie, and are not sustainable if we want to compete with our enemies on anything approaching an even footing.

Done right (your concerns are valid), JO can be the making of our mighty club. We tap into what we have, and what none of those other bastards can compete with - our birthplace, our suburb. 8-)
