Pull the Bloody Chain on the Poos&Wees

Post: # 1663147Post Sainternist »

We haven't won a game against Hawthorn since 2009. I'm tired of being their bitches. It really irks me that they managed to win their first game today. Typical of the Soft Coast Weagles to turn into steaming manure-ridden rabble when they run out on to the MCG. Why can't we get to play them there?!?!

Anyway, if we can't beat Hawthorn next week, we may as well kiss our finals chances goodbye. After today, I can't see us beating GWS, on any ground or played in any conditions, because we just can't seem to match the top four cream of the crop teams.

Jesus, maybe making finals is just a useless gesture. It's not like this team will make a dent.

Thoroughly cheesed off with the Saints right now. This rebuild has been fairly bloody laborious, hasn't it?

It's a bit of a Swiss Cheese rebuild, holes everywhere.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Still seething about our loss to them last year in the Isle of Two-heads when we were robbed by two howler umpiring decisions in the ,Aat quarter for which we got an "apology".

We would have made the eight if not for those changers.

Sinclair in... and let him spend a few minutes on the ball
Ditto with Minch

Give Jack some respite in the first half... he runs himself into the ground

Koby an obvious in

I hate to say it, but I reckon more BS umpiring will be on the cards. Lots of brown and gold guernsey will be queuing up to get a free drinks card off the ump for some post-match frothies!

The way I see it, we're still rebuilding. I think we got pretty lucky with injury last year and perhaps over-achieved by finishing 9th. I think it's quite likely that we'll still just miss our on finals this year also.

Our midfield is clearly the biggest hole to fill. We're still so reliant on Stevens. Seb is stepping up to the plate and Acres and Steele look like they may have a future there, but we\re still shy of at least one more A grader and that illusive "elite" mid we're still yearning for.

But, I do think some things are starting to click. Our back-line is starting to look relatively settled and while our forward line is yet to gel, we still have a good crop of talented forwards and I'm confident they'll settle to a structure.

We couldn't have picked a worse time to rebuild. We were past our best once the expansion clubs entered the comp and pillaged all the cream from multiple drafts. The fact that we also had almost no young talent coming through due to our own ranks meant that this rebuild was also going to be a VERY slow burn.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing, but where we may have made it even harder for ourselves is falling short on our own early draft picks (Billings, Dunstan, White).

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

I agree with you 100%

I still rate Billings and Dunstan. Don't count them out yet. What has happened to Brandon White? He had quite a stellar debut last year in the last round. Mind you, he's only about twenty years old.

At this stage, I'm not overly concerned about making finals. I just hope we can bring a good contest week in and week out this season. The off-season before 2018 will be extremely crucial. It's about time we landed a big fish. I think the last ones we reeled in were Hamill and G-Train. It has been too long!

Good call, it would be nice to test out some of our second tier mids in the middle early on and see what they can do… save up some jack steven mania for late in the game… If things get really out of hand early then make a change.

How can we be too reliant on Stevens when he hasn't even played a game for us yet, or are you the type that likes to shop at Southlands?

I'm sorry. STEVEN.

Is that better?

As it stands our best possible finish is 8th.

If we lose to the Hawks this week we are looking at 10-13th.

We are bog ordinary but a loss to the Hawks would be devastating to our season and morale.

Crucial game for the Saints. We need to win or our season could fall apart badly and by that I dont mean in terms of playing finals.

The team has been working hard, but their execution has been not so good.

There are some players who have been off the boil for a while. Plus while I am happy that they gave Long a taste of it he is not yet ready and cannot be carried with so many below their best, or at least what they need to be.

Minch was an upgrade on Lonie.

Our midfield lacks depth and playing 3 small forwards in Gresh Weller and Long is too many.

We must play at least one more player who is a genuine mid in Stevens and I would also play Sinclsir who deserves a chance due to good midfield numbers including tackles which used to be his lack. He is a good runner too.

Hickey back as he was rested and Longer was spent with a hip knock too.

Pressure works well against the Hawks as it counters their chip and kick gameplan.

Carlisle should spell whomever our No1 ruck is. I am amazed that this has not at least been tried yet as Carlisle has played as a ruck at the Dons including for majority of some games. Bruce is terrible in the ruck and not just to his poor ruckwork but due to his awkward jumping style often leaving him in poor position to rove the ball or lay tackles.
