One year will be our year
Re: Rd 4 team vs Pies
So we are going back to "kick it to Roo"? The whole idea was to move Rooey out of the forward line to let the next-gen get space and take responsibility. Now when the pressure is on (don't worry - Richo loves pressure) it back to type for Richo - conservative to the extreme. Don't worry about pumping games into Paddy like he needs.
Richo is really setting the team up for the future. Brilliant to bring a 29 old injury ridden defender - I assume he'll play for us for 10 years. We are so lucky to have a bold coach like Richo. I wonder if we could get special compensation to get Scneids back on the list and pump another season worths of games into him. Richo is such a forward thinker with real vision. So, so lucky to have him. Just disappointed we didn't drop Acres and Billings - we don't need talented, creative players out there. The more stodge the better.

If Roo is going to win the game for us ..Kick it to him. Sheesh cheer up.

Pick 3 last 20 years :
1995 Brendan Fewster
1996 Rory Hilton
1997 Trent Croad
1998 Nic Fosdike
1999 Aaron Fiora
2000 Alan Didak
2001 Chris Judd
2002 Jared Brennan
2003 Colin Syliva
2004 Ryan Griffen
2005 Xavier Ellis
2006 Lachie Hansen
2007 Chris Masten
2008 Stephen Hill
2009 Dustin Martin (after Scully and Trengrove - ouch)
2010 Sam Day
2011 Dom Tyson
2012 Lachie Plowman
2013 Jack Billings
2014 Angus Brayshaw
2015 Callum Mills
2016 Hugh McCluggage
Judd, Martin - superstars. Tyson goes ok. Griffen. Didak was good. Plenty of careers not worthy of a #3 pick.
Puts my expectations of Billings into context. We shouldn't expect him to be a champ just because he was pick 3. Maybe he'll never realise those heights.

Re: Rd 4 team vs Pies
Personally feel a bit disappointed for Paddy...
Would have liked to see him get a decent run at it rather than a game in Perth and one at the dome and then go back.
Happy to see Long but disappointed that Sinclair doesn't get a gig
I don't know about others but our team structure seems really off so far this season. We seem quite confused especially with regards to who provides run, who's a forward pocket, who's a centre square player

So Sinclair was punished for being an emergency and only able to play a half
Armo hasn't played for three weeks...
Paddy had to be dropped and was... not into gifting games... he was a liability last week
Needs to find some form and compete more

Re: Rd 4 team vs Pies
Very happy with these changes.
And I'll say something here that goes against the grain of everyone on this forum. Roo is not a midfielders arsehole. Sure he collects possessions, but he's too slow to move the ball on and his field kicking under pressure is sus. He's in the top 3 fwds in the competition. Play him in the fwd line. I'm happy for the coaches to release him into the midfield to lose the tag, so to speak. But his best footy is lead up and mark, turn and kick goal. Good mids create play, with quick hands, squaring kicks etc. Roo, in my view, had made it look like he has handled the transition well because, let's face it, he's a champ. But great mids are good when the ball hits the ground. This is not Roo's strong suit. Play him in the fwd line. He'll kick 3 and set up 4-5 more.

Re: Rd 4 team vs Pies
This fixture is a real gift.
We got partially screwed in Rd 2 by the umps but this is an opportunity for pay back.
An Away game v Pies at Etihad is a very good fixture for us.
Need the 4 points.

Btw
Should we not 'kick it to Nick?'
Imagine if we adopted that philosophy last week?
He is afterall, our best player, and he gets to the right spots? If the others are as good, they'd get the ball or get it kicked to them. Roo is often, just the best option
I'd expect our mids to just take the best option to score, pretty sure they would think the same

Koby apparently had a really good game in the Zebs, Gilbee said "he proved just why we went after him"
Why not give Armo another week, he's still well behind his potential = UNDERPERFORMING
Put KOBY in and force Armo to dislodge him.
Challenge Armo, show the whole team that you have to EARN a game
(except the fool in #19 who washes the coaches cars and cleans their houses)
Koby in for mine.

There are 7 on the interchange bench, not 5. 4 interchange plus the 3 emergencies.saintsRrising wrote:Normally the 3 to come out come from the 5 named on the interchange.ace wrote:

.
5 Shane Savage
8 Blake Acres
19 Sam Gilbert
20 David Armitage
21 Ben Long
25 Koby Stevens
32 Paddy McCartin
So Billings is most likely safe enough.
Gresh and Lonie are both named on the ground...so with Long would make 3 small forwards. Though Long has played back as well, but not so much in the latter part of his career.
Of that 5, Savage and Paddy look the most vunerable to me. suspect it might be one of Armo or Stevens to miss as well.

There are a number of players in this team including some that are quite senior that have not started well... and their are a number whose spots are heavily questioned.
I don't believe in making an example of some and not others... especially if the examples are the juniors opposed to the seniors

Re: Rd 4 team vs Pies
My thoughts exactly. I have zero idea what match committee is doing to this kid. He makes good decisions, is clean by foot and hand and seems to play very well at the level in his limited opportunities. Is it not possible to perhaps play him in Dunstan's role? Luke is plodding inside mid with average disposal. Very average. I can't think how we'd go backwards.BigMart wrote:Sinclair must be confused?

Re: Rd 4 team vs Pies
Agree 100%, in my opinion Sinclair is in our best 22 no doubt whatsoever, not sure why they're not giving the kid a chance. What more does he have to do? He's consistently in our best 2 or 3 when playing for Sandy, good decision maker, dangerous around goal and he has the polish we're lacking at the moment. We seem to be obsessed with playing guys that you'd want to go to war with like Weller, Dunstan, Geary, Webster etc, and that's great but we also need some decent finishers as well.Saintmatt wrote:My thoughts exactly. Re: Rd 4 team vs Pies
I'm a fan of Sinclair but he's had plenty of goes and has wasted a lot of them. Doesn't get enough of the ball. Perhaps they're developing him as a mid and need him to tick all the boxes as a mid, bit of a change around for him. They've given him a pretty decent number so reading something into that they must clearly rate him. Look how long they worked Seb in the VFL for the role he's executing now. And don't mention Eli.
