Suffocating on our own expectation!

Post: # 1659056Post Saint wagga »

10mins into 3rd qtr...weather we win this game or not from here...one thing is clear. Our young team are absolutely being suffocated by the pre season expectation!! You can almost see panic and frustration permeating thrust the whole team as things don't go our way! If we are lucky we sneak away with a win, if we loose, this season could seriously spiral!!

Could there be some worry over the Perth game?
Scared to lose, not being natural, just tense?

We did expect too much, I quickly revised my expectations to three wins, Gold Coast & Carlton, are yet to come although I am not that sure about Carlton anymore. If anybody can tell me who else we are better than I would like to know.

I was on the Richo 'not necessarily translate to more wins' bandwagon, but I did expect to see an improvement in the quality of football we were dishing up. Where's the effort this year? What''s happened to our forwardline? So far, we look better interstate (one game), but I don't see any consistency quarter to quarter let alone game to game. I guess time will tell, 'tis early days...but it's not looking pretty right now.

Hard to see where our next win will come from.
Freo and Essendon better than last year.
Carlton or GC maybe?

We are rubbish, based on today.
Unless they smarten up and play the way we know they can,
they will lose to Blues n GC and get hammered by Crows

Based on the start of the year

I wouldn't expect too much.... Even when the team plays well... We keep the opposition in it

Just maybe the team struggled after playing in Perth in the heat. Very draining Olin a team.

I reckon we've got the structure wrong, thus far. For example, we've gone from Fish & Shinner, with ball carrying ability around them, and a sense of adventure, to Brown & Carlisle, and timidity around them.

And, that ain't the players' fault.

I don't default to blaming brains' trusts, but neither do I default to overrating them.

For mine, we're ignoring the value of leg speed, and overrating our disposal skills - that's a bad combo.

Brownie n Jake have 3 real games together.
I give em a big tick.
We had big losses last year when we were short down back.
Forget Fisn n Shinner, they didn't help when Swans gave us a belting.
The back 6 will get better, and will play with a great system.
These 3 games have each been funny in their own unique way.

But why do we start so well...

Because our game style is to manic pressure and strip the opposition and force turn over, and score on the fly.... we have an over aggressive press (which Melbourne took adv of) and our push back to congest is over the top...

We try to score on the counter.... but really, when do we score from slow play or stoppage

Another query
Can our ridiculous inaccuracy be traced to the 'Roo Syndrome'?
Forwards that have worked 250m to get on the end of it, and their legs are gone!

Plus...I am worried about the sloppy disposals which ruin our forays and hit the confidence.

The crap disposal in the JLT was, for me, a product of a preseason focused on fitness n strength,
and I thought the skill would return.

It needs to improve quickly

Yep, I reckon the structure is wrong too! We lack leg speed on the outside, and our forwards insist on playing so far up the field, the opposition defenders are getting back quicker than our blokes. At the risk of sounding old fashioned, why don't we play Paddy from the goal square, perhaps with a resting crumber like Billings, Lonie or Gresham.
