This reminds me that 2 years ago, I was looking at a used, low mileage Alfa Romeo. Full service history. I joined an Alfa forum and discovered that if you have enough cash to spend on servicing at exactly the right kms, only by an Alfa specialist...and have full roadside assistance for when it goes on strike, then an Alfa can give years of driving joy.
Changed my mind. Expensive, high maintenance, quirky/idiosyncratic...but when it's able to be driven, a joy to behold.

No Alfa for me, thanks.
No JOM for the Saints, thanks
Had an Alfa Spyder ... your right ...had it serviced at Monza moters, who's mechanic worked for the Alpha racing team.. he still tuned the carbies by ear!
Alfas are like my ex ltalian wife, flighty, high maintenance, good to look at , and a sporty ride...In hindsight I should have kept the car and traded in the ex instead

I agree with no JOM .. but I would get another Spyder

It is not directed at Jaeger, it is directed at the Hawks fans - I had one at work who continually gloated about getting Jaeger and therefore, he would immediately get on the park with Mitchell and that they would take the place of Lewis and Mitchell, Hawthorn would contend for the 2017 flag, and "all would be right with the world" after all "We did it with Burgoyne whose knees were in worse shape than Jaegers". He has left the job - but I wish I could remind him of the claim when we use/trade their first rounder.

Fact or Fiction. It is often stated that Jaeger had a medical at the Saints and the results meant we pulled out of the race to snare him.

Is this a fact or an urban myth?

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Selhurst Saint - if it was posted on Saintsational I would say it's the latter - an urban myth! Or even a country or interstate myth   This site excels at creating myths re trades, me thinks.

They certainly interviewed him or his manager.

Anything more than that I can't say.

Hawks fans are outrageously arrogant & bullish, understandable being the Premier club in the last 50 years with 3 amazing eras of Premiership success.
This last era of 4 premiership successes required many things to go well & you need some luck as well.
Hodge & Franklin over looked at the draft by other clubs.
The punt on Burgoyne & his dodgy knee- Some Hawks supporters were crying that they had picked a crock.
Players like Brian Lake to become available when they were desperate to cover Trent Croad, perfect fit & whilst you may have the capacity to get such a player they need to be available when you need them.
I think they started thinking they were a little bullet proof & time will tell with O Meara.
If it comes off they will be lauded as geniuses once again.
I can understand people enjoying their current plight, 10 years on top takes its toll on others.

Nothing to do with taking great delight in his injury troubles if you're including me in being "ghoulish". Taking great delight that we chose wisely and gave him a miss. And yep some "told ya so" when there were various people who were willing to stump up big time for him. Was always a risk way too big to take. Just like Wellard's Alfa Romeo. Just nuts to pay top dollar for a bloke who hadn't been on the park for two years with the kind of injury he had. Hawthorn were stoopid.

I don't see how you can say anything definitive when he is a quarter of a season into a career at Hawks and has already got some AFL games under his belt. Hawks are playing the long game with him like . You seem way over-eager to write him off like a jilted ex-lover.

Could say the same to you in the opposite direction. Could say, "you seem way over-eager to give him more time to prove himself." This is a guy who hadn't played a competitive game in two years, apart from a half of Gold Coast reserves after which he required more surgery. And now - after seven rounds of his third season after serious injury, he's still missing games with "knee soreness". It doesn't bode well for him don't you reckon? And the games he's played he's hardly kicked it - handball happy. Don't reckon I'm eager to write him off, just realistic. I could well be wrong, but I reckon he's cooked. Hawthorn were looking through very rose coloured glasses and plain stupid to pay what they did. Not gloating about his injury, just glad we didn't pay top dollar for an injury bust. We already have one, albeit only for a second rounder.

I don't think anyone is gloating, just responding to Damo's opening navel gazer… which he hasn't returned to.

No one who is fair minded likes to see a super talent unable to play to his potential because of injury. Jaeger seems to have put his injury behind him and is currently in superlative form.

I am not criticising the club for failing to recruit Jaeger. I personally just think it would have been great to see him win 30 plus touches and have a huge influence while playing in a St Kilda jumper.

No way I'd consider Jager in the same bracket as Fyfe & Dusty, perhaps a similar category as Freeman.

see how do you know he's an injury bust? That is where you are going way early. He's played some games is out for maybe a few now and then could come back better. Already chalked up a huge possession game. Sports medicine gets better and better. Roo's knee looked shot 4 years ago and he could well play on next year. JOM could get right and then he has shown he is that high intelligence player who just knows how to get footy without trying.

But anyway, you be certain in your short-term view by calling him an injury bust. Is Hickey an injury bust - has been injured quite a bit and we paid high for him. Even Armo has had a lot of injuries over his career for a pick 10. McCArtin has lost a lot of ground through injury. You roll the dice with trades and drafting. JOM is not particularly different.

Bluthy why do you love LOM so much? You seem very invested in him?

I dont find it that ghoulish for us to be pleased we didn't spend the farm on him.

The big picture is he is a young fella who will earn a couple of million clams before he is 26 years old.

Even if he never makes 100 games - he is well ahead in life.

Don't heart JOM Conman. Just not prepared to say he is an "injury bust" after 7 games back into his career. IF he comes good you'll do your normal flip-flop and be gnashing your teeth why we didn't go after him.

HE is a ticking Jaeger bomb at the moment - could explode in the competition or blow up the Hawks future plans. We need to wait until the fuse burns down a bit first.

Clarkson going to talk to JOM at training:

Another major factor in the last Hawthorn era was that it was the time of compromised drafts.
They (and Geelong and Sydney) were able to remain at the top of the ladder as nobody else had access to quality players from which to build their list as they were all reserved for GC and GWS.
Clearly they don't rate the draft as they have traded away their choices for the foreseeable future to secure a S/H Alpha.
Good luck with that....

As I stated earlier, I have it on very good authority that our medicos saved us from the blunder than JOM may turn out to be. We were keen, JOM was keen, the medicos? Not so much. Given what the Hawks paid, we are the clear winners in this, at this stage at least.

I sense the Hawks will be down for a long time.
I like the look of O'Brien and Burton but it just wont be enough and with absolute nothing in this year's draft it is going to be a long long road back from here.
Burgoyne, Gibson and Hodge should all be gone at year's end. Puopolo and Birchall are really only treading water now too.

Who on earth is fair minded when it comes to following footy?

People are happy to see a grown man bough to tears or bullied mentally or physically (or both) if it means that their club wins.

That's pretty f****** far from fair minded.

I don't know he's an injury bust. You don't know he's not. Odds to me appear to be that he is. Good luck to him if I'm wrong.
Hickey???? Armo???? McCartin????? Comparisons that aren't on the same planet. Lots of players recover from serious injuries. But JOM is still struggling to kick the footy and get on the park into his third year after injury. I reckon he's very different to most recruits because of the severity of his injury. He may recover. Time will tell. I'm just very very glad that he's not on our list with a big fat contract under his belt.

Sad for Jaeger's career, but he's on good money to not be playing.

What I like though is that as a result, we now have their No 1 draft choice, to add to having their No 1 CEO choice.
