Best 22 (overlooked)
After all the heartache this week… let's get this out of our system, our best 22 of players that we could have on our list with hindsight.
FF Le Cras (#37 2004) J Riewoldt (#13 2006) M Walters (#53 2008)
HF Parker (#40 2010) Tippett (# 32 2006) Darling (#26 2010
C Zaharakis (#23 2008) Fyfe (#20 2009) Dahlhaus (r#22 2010)
HB MacMillan (#37 2009) Barrass (#43 2013) Johannisen (r#39 2010)
FB Hartigan (r#14 2012) Jaksch (#12 2012) Laird (r#5 2011)
Foll Goldstein (#37 2006) Dangerfield (#10 2007) Bontempelli (#4 2013)
Int A Swallow (#43 2005) Gawn (#34 2009) Merrett (#26 2013) Petracca (#2 2014)
It's so much easier in hindsight, key defenders could be better but I don't think they would see much of the ball anyway.
Apologies to anyone I have left out.

Do that for just about any other AFL team and it will be just as damning.
AwayInUSA no longer ... have based myself back in Melbourne for a decade of Saintsational Success (with regular trips back to the USA)

Re: Best 22 (overlooked)
We also missed Cyril for McEvoy. I'd be happy with that ruck/rover division and the interchange. We'd be premiers for sure. It just shows how critical recruiting is. I think nobody's biting because a) people are in shock reading it and b) are too busy weeping after reading it!
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

I'm more pissed about the 119 flags we missed between 1897 and 2016

Kyle Hartigan?
He was taken as a Rookie from Williamstown after a season dominating
I remember being shocked we didnt take him back then.
I think I had a fight with p66 about it IIRC. p66 of course was adamant he was no good and the Saints recruitment staff never ever get it wrong

So we stuffed up on two. Could've had either one of what are now among the best in the competition. Double ouch!dragit wrote:I picked Dangerfield over Cyril as we couldn't have had both.

But you two both have to admit Ben McEvoy, was a lovely, friendly, polite young country lad. Many mums would have been happy to let their daughter go out with him!White Winmar wrote:So we stuffed up on two. Could've had either one of what are now among the best in the competition.
