Observations After Round One

Post: # 1655320Post Jacks Back »

I have some observations and thoughts after that debacle against Melbourne.

Did the last JLT game against Sydney take it out of both sides as both sides lost at their home dung hills?

Picking Lonie to replace McCartin robbed us of playing Roo in the midfield where he can roam middle earth, back and forward. Picking 8cres would have allowed 8cres and Roo to swap on the wing and up forward like they did last year. Bad selection.

Playing cute with not playing McCartin (even though he is apparently playing for Sandy tomorrow) cost us (see above)

Picking up Brown in the pre-season and Carlisle the year previous may make us taller down back but also makes us slower.

Gresham is the small (Milne-type) forward and not Lonie. We don't have the luxury of playing both.

Picking Geary as captain was a ridiculous move as now he can't be dropped when he plays badly for prolonged games. I hope he plays well week in and week out but tonight wasn't one of those weeks.

We need a goal kicking coach and we need to practice goal kicking.

There are probably more but that's enough for now.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Oh well, it's all doom and gloom, again. We're year 51 into our rebuild and it's still got flaws.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

The most disgusting part about today was the EFFORT.. It wasn't skill it was application.. Absolutely disgusting effort today and the lack of run and pressure was putrid.. If we lose and we weren't good enough than so be it but it was a Fkn disgrace

Yeah, it had a real downhill skiers feel about it. They just couldn't lift again when the momentum switched during the second quarter. Seemed like they thought they were about to have a day out and a lot couldn't handle that they got dragged back into a contest. McDonald's desperate sprint and punch against Bruce 20m from goal seemed to be the turning point in the match. They went bang, bang, bang after that. We never looked the same thereafter.
We missed Dempster today. One of the most under rated players of the last decade.

Recruiters can make or break you.
We have depth - we have 10 inside midfielders and no Petracca.

Key defenders who do little more than punch the ball.
