Roo's knee. Is this the end?

Post: # 1655163Post White Winmar »

Just saw Roo's knee buckle in the slow motion replay. Looked nasty. Is this the end for the champ? Looked very much like an ACL tearing type accident. What a marvellous day. Thrashed by an average team and one of our greatest may just have played his last game. One might say, a typical Saints day. We are the Charlie Brown of the AFL and fate is our Lucy Van Pelt. Every year, like Charlie we run up to the ball Lucy holds, convinced we're finally going to kick it, only for her to pull it away. Again.

Extent of the injury yet to be confirmed.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Let's hope for something minor.

I thought it was more of a hyper extension - time will tell

I've got everything crossed, Wayne. At leas he got up and hobbled to the cart, but gee it looked ugly in slow motion. I hope it's not career ending, but who could blame him if he pulled the pin. That knee has always been troublesome.

There were folks on social media crowing about how we would win for the 15th time
I told them not to damn well jinx us, don't crow about a win until the final siren.
Damn
Damn
Damn
How could Jack Steven only gather 20 possessions.
How could Mav play like he belongs in the VFL.
How could Bruce run like a headless chook with no impact.
How could N Brown just turn up and jog around the ground- no wonder Pies let him go.

I think jack got 25 posessions.

Lonie should be the first out.

Was it his knee? To me it looked like an ankle issue.

In fairness to Lonie he was far from the biggest villain of the night. We were smashed in the middle, unorganised in the backline and wasteful up forward. But it all started in the middle and he wasn't the grunt we needed. Least he kept running

St Kilda say the early signs are positive for Nick Riewoldt after the veteran suffered a knee injury late in his side's loss to Melbourne.

UPDATE: initial diagnosis positive. Structurally, docs think it's pretty sound. Awaiting further scans and will provide further updates.

We all love nick, but if we are seriously relying on him at 34 we are a fair way back... he should be a bonus not the lynchpin now.

Hope he's okay.

I reckon Roo's knee will be ok, not an acl, looked more a dynamic hyperextension, Dennis armfield did similar a few years ago, looked as painful as an acl, but once cleared, he got up to play the following week...depends how much swelling and if any cartilage chipped...but I reckon he'll maybe just miss one week!

As for our performance, bitterly dissapointing...so flat right now but will resist the calls for drastic changes. Maybe just a couple of changes depending on injuries. Players need the chance to make a menz, Richo has always been big on that mantra!!

We looked very very tired across the board today after 5 mins into the second quarter, me thinks they've really trained very hard and buggered up their taper for the start of the season. Time will tell how quickly we can right the ship!!

For what it's worth my sis is friends with the too family and he says the injury is not too bad. No other detail given. Here's hoping.

Very handy lynchpin.

Forget about age. He's still one of the best, proved it today as well.

He was magnificent today. Could have heard a pin drop when the stretcher came on (except for the sound of my two sons sobbing).

Would be gutted if that was the end, so fingers, toes, and everything else crossed that the initial reports prove true.

And kudos to the Melbourne supporters, especially their cheer squad, who stood and cheered him off.

Roo just interviewed by Kingy on Fox.

Said definitely not an ACL and seems structurally sound. But scans tomorrow to check.

Said he heard a pop and it bloody hurt and he thought he'd done an ACL. But he feels like a "bit of a goose" now and he has probably dodged a bullet.

Don't feel bad Roo, just get better and back out there.

I've done an ACL

If it is clean and the other ligs are in tact, after initial injury it can seem ok

Then it swells and scans reveal bad news

Lenny actually played out a game after doing one of his two.

The bad news is the pop sound and the initial pain followed by feeling ok
Could possibly mean full tear, which hurts less than a partial after initial

I'll go with the Docs thoughts until the scans are done.
