3 goals as a small forward in a losing side. Plenty worse than him tonight, and another excellent goal. Reminds me so much of #44.

Yes he has a touch of the 44's.
Very clever and knows where the goals are.

He was one of the few bright spots in a dog of a night. He will be worthy of the #4.

That wheel around in the 3rd was a beauty

He's clever

But I'm not wowed like everyone else

Before HT thought he was ordinary, took his chances in front of goal....

Great point. And so many players fired AFTER HT didn't they?

I just don't think he's as big a star as we make out

We overrate him, like we do the entire team

Before half time he spent large chunks in the centre, he never got a touch

He played better i50

What he did do
Is take his opportunity

I am hoping for a midfielder, not a clever little forward... so I want to see him get more footy

The boy is in his second season. Nineteen years old. Nineteenth senior game yesterday. Kicked three in a side that was smashed. In our best players. Again. I don't understand why people demand so much and fail to see the potential. He is far and above the best draftee we've had in recent memory in terms of performance so early in his career. Billings? Fourth year and struggling to impact games. McCartin? Can't even get on the park on a consistent basis. Dunstan? Struggling. Acres? In the VFL. Ross? Good, but has had 5 years in the system and many on here wanted him gone in his early years. Certainly, in his second year, nobody held high hopes for him. McKenzie? Can't get a game at present. If you can't see the enormous potential in this kid, ignore his significant achievements so far and can't see him as an A grade midfielder in the years to come, then you might not know as much about football as you think you do.

This.

Watching him play, and learn to play better, is one of the great highlights. It certainly was last night.

1 on 1 ran for the ball close the boundary ... manages to keep the ball in play and knocked to our advantage ... his team mate receives and sends a hospital handball his way as he skirts the boundary towards goal ... cleverly he taps it mid air towards goal before a looming opponent easily intercepts ... he sprints to the goal square ... gathers an awkwardly bouncing ball ... and as two opponents descend on him he snaps over his shoulder for a goal. 3 very very clever pieces of play under pressure in 10 seconds. A teenager still. Get excited.

How was his trademark fake out step around again? You enjoy going to footy just to watch guys who can do those bits of magic - gets you out of your seat screaming in joy.

What I love about him is he makes things happen out there. Armo's got it - meh. Ross got it meh. Steven got it - love his dash but he'll probably kick it to no one. But Gresh gets....s***s gunna happen! He's a creative play maker.

He is struggling in the middle a bit when he goes in there currently. It's so much of a tougher ask when you have a huge number of guys coming at you 360 degrees than the forward line when you may only need to beat one or two players. But I think if he can get his endurance up and get used to the kamikaze speed being around the ball he can be a creative play maker for us onball with his instinctive skills and sharp reaction speed. WE badly need that.

How old is Clayton Oliver?

A teenager

35 touches

Yes, he does clever things!!!!

Does he find the footy through the middle much, like Caleb Daniel did as a 68kg 'teenager'?

You contribute a lot to this forum but this is you being a goose.

Oliver was pick 4, not 18, for a reason.

All clubs would take Jade in a second if he was put on the table.

He does some magic things but would love to see him get more of the ball.

However Hawthorn could say the same about Cyril.

That's a lot of poise for a 19 year old. He will only get better. Looking forward to seeing him at 25.

I went nuts...I'd just turned to my (Dees supporter) mate, a few moments before and said "keep an eye on our #4, he'll do something freaky today"; cue Goal of the Round.

Not sure I have said he has no promise

Just that he ain't a star yet, like some are suggesting. He is lauded a future superstar, he has shown he is a tricky small forward. He hasn't kicked 4 in a game, he hasn't got 25 touches, or close too, he's showing glimpses.

And what's with this pick rubbish?

Are players completely judged by the pick they are?

Because people forgot to tell that to Jarryd Geary who was the 140th player taken in 2006... he was allowed to be that good?!

I'm happy with his development so far.

IMO he's doing really well for an undersized forward pocket.

He may not yet be a world beater but he's performing beyond reasonable expectations

Glimpses are what you expect to see from future stars in their first few years.

Draft order gives you some idea of how good a player might be. The point is you need to be realistic about what to expect from them. What are the chances that a pick 20 is going to be elite?
