SHE has broken barriers for women in AFL football but the league’s first female coach, Peta Searle, has not let it go to her head.
Her reaction to being inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women yesterday and featuring in an exhibition of high-achieving Women in the West was “I actually feel undeserving”.
“I’m just going out there doing my job,” the St Kilda assistant coach said. “I think there’s so many other people out there making valuable contributions in terms of helping women, helping young girls and supporting them on a day-to-day basis.”
The mother of two is among 25 Victorian women who were inducted on to the honour roll by Minister for Women, Fiona Richardson, in time for International Women’s Day tomorrow.
Easy to be cynical about her role in an era where the gender of traffic lights is a thing, but this is a terrific achievement by Peta and well done to the club for appointing her. Haven't heard anything negative about her and the word is she's doing a great job.

Good on her.
I'm pretty sure the club she would have an involvement with our women's team but not as senior coach. Her main gig will always be the assistant coaching role with the Saints.
She'd be a Monty for an AFLW head coaching job. I think she might prefer to continue in the elite level, though. She might be aiming for the top job in the men's game.

That would be good to see - not just for the fact that she'd hopefully be great at it, but the media would love the "woman coaching a women's team" angle.
There'd be a mountain of good press on the way if that happens!

There is already a woman coaching one of the womens teams -Michelle Cowan I think
