Re: Ian Stewart on Feature hour 9 -10 March 1st
Fantastic to hear Ian Stewart on the radio, and credit to Mark Fine and Geoff Poulter for their interview skills and knowledge and patience.
Got the impression that Alan Jeanes may not have been that popular with some of the players.

Not with Mr. Cervi, anyway. The feeling was mutual, I can assure you.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

There was a young player who went from the saints to Richmond then to hawthorn (not 100% sure on this) that absolutely bagged Jeans out in this period, can't remember the name thou

Stephen Rae got his don't come Monday during Jeans reign, he then went to Richmond....... can't recall if he went to Hawthorn tho'. Stephen Rae was the first person I had ever seen that had personalised number plates - way before it was common practise. He was a little bit of a Figjam, without the skills to claim that title IMO.ausfatcat wrote:Toy Saint wrote:Got the impression that Alan Jeanes may not have been that popular with some of the players.

Ofcourse Micky Milkshake left saints in Jeans final year at Saints. & went to play for Richmond, he definitely didn't go from there to Hawks. Went to Footscray as coach at end of his playing career.

No Rae only played for the saints and Richmond.
Did become a league umpire though and coached at the Swans.
Brilliant footballer and another one who had his career cut short by a knee injury.

Was Stewie frocked up for the interview?

Thank you for that bratty. Very enjoyable to listen to.saintbrat wrote:having said that - it is finally up
It brought back memories. Actually they flooded back.
I was at Stewie's first game. Remember the game vividly. Mostly the part played by Carl. Wallis too.Pity his career was cut short.
Also remember the 65 Grannie. One of the worst days of my then young life. I was sitting near the fence on the wing.
Ran into the Doc at the airport the next day. I think I was sadder than he appeared to be.
Worried about Stewie though, he didn't sound well.
Don't know if he has been sick, been drinking or suffering from dementia.
Maybe he's had a stroke. In any event hope he's on the improve.
I loved watching him play.
I have never listened to Finney before. He hasn't a f****** clue.
Came across as a star struck fawning sycophant

Re: Ian Stewart on Feature hour Audio
Interesting interview. He didn't sound totally in control.
I thought Finney handled it well.
I still remember his first game against Melbourne. Everyone was lauding big Carl, as I was, but I came away thinking the newbie who impressed me most of the four sensational debuts was Stewie.
I remember being blown away by his marking and disposal. I was a huge fan from this moment on and was dismayed when he went to Richmond.
