How Are The Newbies Tracking?

Post: # 1649652Post damienc »

Has anyone been closely following pre season training?

I would be interested to know how the newbies are tracking ie Long, Battle, Phillips, Steele, Stephens, Freeman, Brown, Carlisle and Marshall?

I heard that Long was showing a bit.

While we are on that topic of who is doing what...how about the others who showed a bit towards the end of last year like White? And Lonie?

I would imagine Stevens, Brown and Carlisle would be battle ready. They just have to learn our game plan. But are they training well?

Any info would be gratefully received by me and I imagine some others.

Agreed. Also wouldn't mind hearing about the players we haven't seen much of or at all on the firsts - White, Rice, O'Kearney, Coughlan etc.

You're excused, Bluth. I thought you were channeling Ita Buttrose.

What about some of the rookies etc? Are we likely to see 18 year olds or rookies play this year? :/

O'kearney was doing ok last year. Played really well in the VFL - similar to Sinclair - skillful and creative. But his problem is he's probably going to be behind Gresham, Sinclair, Minch & Lonie. There are only so many small we want in our 22 not matter how much talent they have.

Coughlan is one that if injuries struck to to our slightly injury prone and aging backs, could be asked to step up if he can show some more solid VFL form. He's still pretty skinny I think.

From what I have read it appears that Ben Long is the only Draftee this year that has a chance of playing early Senior games.
