Well, I love the Saints.

Just thought I'd share that.

We are copping it, from our own too.

But I don't care.

I'm not going to tell anyone else how to support our club, it's up to them.

But I love the joint. Always have, and always will. And the media aren't going to change that.

It's a Belgian beer.

And I think it's also Swahili for 'women's breast'.

But I had the beer.

I would have preferred the breast to be honest, the beer wasn't that flash.

Why?
My father wore the jumper.
I was invited down to the U15 squad.
I have a certificate declaring me a supporter from 1977.
Honestly, I could go on and on. And on. Like many others could also.

But the fact is, I've loved the footy since I was a kid. A very young kid. I played it, and I've supported it since I was old enough to know better.

I used to go down with a mate and watch them train 3 nights a week. It got to the point where the players and coaches knew us. And sometimes we'd get the gig of collecting the footies or helping clear up when training was finished.
One day at Moorabbin, back in the days when you could cruise onto the ground before the game, me and my mate waltzed into the change rooms about an hour before the game. Harves was getting a rub down at the time, and he nodded knowingly at us, and they let us stay in there. We were told to keep quiet and stay in the corner - which we gladly did.

Me and my mate would go to Coles on Saturday mornings with our pocket money and load up our backpacks with provisions for the day, then jump on the train at Bentleigh station and head off to wherever we were playing.
We'd plan our run to arrive just as the gates opened at 11am.

If we were playing at home, we'd walk that little bit taller. If we were playing away, we'd get that little bit more nervous as we approached enemy territory. It was like Springfieldians venturing into Shelbyville - every was the same, just different.

I used to just get this rush of adrenalin when the team would run out on the ground. When I'd see the glossy red, white and black appear from the race, and start to scan the group for my favourites to make sure they were all there.

I've just never grown out of it.

I don't get to the footy as much as I used to, for various reasons. But I still get this buzz whenever the team runs out, even on the TV.

Win, lose or draw I can't change that feeling I get.

I don't give a s*** when mates or people I work with bag the club. They don't get it.
They don't understand the character it takes to support the Saints.

They talk to me as if I'm cursed and they feel sorry for me. I talk to them like I pity them.

I pity them because they're wrong. They don't barrack for the Saints. They've missed out.

Shattered when they lose, stoked when they win.

Regardless, I can't nor do I want to, fall out of love with the Saints.

Im summary, there is no explantion. I just do.

It depends on what you want from the relationship.

If it's a flag that keeps you rocking up every week, then you're bound to get disappointed - supporters from 15 clubs get that every year!

If it's the journey you love, then it doesn't really change.

My consolation is that it will be only the sweeter when it comes.

My disappointment is that my dad is 86 now and to see his joy in winning one of the last two would have been incredible. I still hope for me in the the years to come but in reality it is for him, he has been an unbelievable supporter, an unsung hero who was forever dipping in his pocket to keep the club going.

The journey was good but with higher than normal expectation comes a more tangible disappointment which I'm afraid is burning me out, maybe losing our big chance to the vermin of the league may have magnified things.
In life eventually just about everything loses it's gloss over time , for me I am feeling that way for the club I have stood by for so long.
Depressing ? maybe, just the way I'm feeling atm.
I now strongly doubt that i will see a flag in my life time.

While we're loving everything at the moment.

I actually love the fact that we are hated...

IMO we've lacked a bit of C U Next Tuesday.

We've done a physical preseason, and due to all the other crap we've been put through a mental preseason aswell.

Bring it...

I'm sick of being everyones 2nd favourite team.

IMO if we're hated we're on the right track.

To have what it takes to win flag you need to be bad...

Name me a dominant club in the AFL that hasn't had issues???

I'm in love with being hated...

Come on everyone embrace the hate and channel it.

P.S Drink responsibly.
