2001 - St Kilda's draft

Post: # 474249Post Richter »

Now that we have picked up Charlie Gardiner and Adam Schneider we have 9 players on our list from the 2001 superdraft, including 7 that went in the top 23.......

pick 2 Luke Ball

pick 5 Xavier Clarke

pick 13 Nick Dal Santo

pick 15 Barry Brooks

pick 19 Jason Gram

pick 21 Matt Maguire

pick 23 Charlie Gardiner

pick 37 Leigh Montagna

pick 60 Adam Schneider

Our other pick was Josh Houlihan at pick 49.

We have also had on our list Mark McGough (pick 43)

Notable other players were Chris Judd (pick 3), Jimmy Bartel (pick 8), Sam Mitchell (pick 36) and Gary Ablett Jnr (F/S pick 40)

Hopefully this cohort of players will now be coming into their prime over the next few years (ages 24 - 28) together and will lead us to an era of success.......

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

Me too, too often teams have 18-20 year olds and 29+ and very little in between.

We have lost 5 players over 29 and replaced them with 3 players under 25 and a 28/29 year old.

All this with a #9 pick in tact.

yep Brooks was a champion junior ruckman. sometimes they just dont work out. pretty sure one of our previous whipping boys gumby was a first or early second round draft pick too.

sam fisher would be close to top 10 in his year.

look at how far aaron hamill slipped before being drafted, james hird, even Kerr, today kerr would be a top 5 draft pick, went at 18.

teams are probably scratching their heads wondering why no one noticed andrew thompson till he was 23.

as for early round draft flops, hutton, livingston, molan, plenty to go around.
