I can't believe we picked him up. It's like getting Matthew Clarke again. I would rather a youngster.

Nothing like Clarke.

Clarke was delisted / retired. Age 34.

King is a recent Premiership player, 28 years of age, just starting to get his body back right again.

Correct. A premiership player who is 28 for nothing. What are we thinking.

Something else he has is "leadership experience".

A lot of posters have been asking who is going to fill the leadership gap that has been left with the retirements we've had this year. A former captain & premiership player should help bridge that gap.

Harvey is going at 36. Geelong have 3 ruckman and only 2 can fit in the salary cap.

Geelong have salary cap issues as well & were forced (very nicely by us) into paying Blake much more than he would have got (& is worth).

We gave up nothing & got someone who played a very good game in his last match which also happened to be a grand final.

Yes it is a risk because King has had injury issues in the past. It is a calculated risk that will have great benefits if it works out & is at a nominal cost if it doesn't.

Look to King, Schneider, Dempster & Chuckles Gardiner to really have something to prove to their old clubs. King especially has been hung out to dry, I'm sure he'll be looking to stick it up the club that told him to retire.

Dont let facts get in the way of the worrywarts n1ck.

Leadership is one thing King will bring.

Cant anybody else see King looking at our list and seeing parralells with the Geelong list as far as craving a premiership goes?

King will be invaluable for us and is only 28. Played most of the year and will be better next year.

Geelong had to get rid of him to keep Blake. King is not an Ackland or Flannagan, he can play and play well.

Lance or James??

Seriously, we got him for nothing!

Our current ruck stocks are pathetic. At least King will give us a contest at the first bounce. IMO King is an awesome pick-up until we can develop a younger option (Van Rheenan, ?). The happiest St Kilda people today will be Dal Santo, Ball, Banger, Joey and Lenny. Finally someone with a presence in the middle!

I'm happy with this selection.

We also got Gardiner for free :)

I don't have any problems with picking him up - especially for nix - but he's a risk like Gardiner & Clarke before him.

Could be an awesome pickup or a waste of time. Cost/benefit says we had nothing to lose by allowing him to take up Clarke's spot on the list.
