Why the lack of respect for Leigh Fisher?

Post: # 473410Post cwrcyn »

I can't belive some people would be happy to move this guy on.

His first half of 2007 was excellent, and I would have put him in our top three or four players during that time. He did trail off a bit, but give the guy a break.

He's a really solid and dependable contributor - courageous, hard working, and reads the game well.

So he lacks genuine leg speed. So do many players.

This guy is a key element to our back half, and I'd be furious if he was traded for a second or third-tier player from another club (ie Schneider)

not a lack of repsect from me, we just have more half backs then half forwards, thats what trades are for, fixing up the weaknesses in your squad.

Schenider has played basically every game in a team that made the last two Grand Finals.

He is in the most talented dozen players at the Swans, and in their starting 18 for every game he has played over the past three seasons.

Leigh Fisher is a slow back pocket. We have 4-5 players who can fill that role.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

yeah there was a comment in the papers to that effect...ie...schneider wasn't keen to come south but was warming to the idea after roos tolds him that this prospects with the swine next year weren't too good......from sydney papers...and a reporter who writes a lot of crap on the sin city side......

Yep, I'll say it again.

Beware of the Sheldon factor. My memories of the draft periods of 1990, 1991, and 1992 haunted me for years.

Gee, who did he pass up? Only guys like Peter Matera and Michael Long, just to name a couple.

Read these names and weep

Jodi Arnol
Tony Antrobus
Steven Clarke
Brian Wilson
Darren Davies

There were a few others, but it pains me to continue

Good thing Lyon and Peake are calling the shots then. Lyon has the power to over-rule Sheldon on all trades.

I'm not giving an opinion .... if Schneider was such a bad footballer, why then did he play 25 games in 2006 and 21 games in 2007?

The guy buried us with 3 last quarter goals in the 2005 Preliminary Final. He can win matches, and has pacy and aggression round the packs. Has a harder body and more speed than Stephen Milne, and wins more of the footy through the middle.

hope you are right mate.....kenny is a real problem,.....i have a one year old pup with more sense than that guy.......and even she is a bit slow.....not sure which one is sillier though......

I don't have much time for Sheldon either, but Lyon will make the calls. You never know, he might be even worse ...

i can't answer that....but if he is as good as you say...why would they be so keen to offload him.....

Both clubs were last night waiting for Schneider's approval. He was initially against leaving Sydney.

The 23-year-old is in Bali with his girlfriend, but is said to be warming to the idea after Swans coach Paul Roos made it clear he would be better off elsewhere.
could very easily be a guess - cant wait for this week to be over...or more-so i cant wait for a trade involving us

Leigh didn't fail the physical.
He was told to go home and sleep on it but today the deal fell through.
My biggest fear is that tomorrow the deals goes ahead.

Interesting.

Why "fear" ... because you value Leigh Fisher? Fair enough.

Any comment on the chances of the deal happening tomorrow, or what caused it to fall through?

Nothing aginst the OP but how many players on here have been in the top 5 this year?

Fisher is a solid squad player who I am happy to keep at the club if nothing happens trade wise.

He is on the fringe of the starting 18, nothing more.

We are desperate for a half forward we have no goalkickers outside Milne and Riewoldt now. Someone like Schneider is ideal.
