Whatever it takes?

Post: # 468822Post Dan Warna »

should we have been more brutal 02 to 06?

where is your limit drawn on success? ie. should we have been doping our players knowing the chances of exposure were negligible? should we have cheated on the salary cap? (ie rumours that miss twiggly has been offered a contract in victoria at 300k p/a for an associate business of the blues)

should we target opposition players for crippling?

where would you draw the limit?

IMO we have been relatively honourable in our dealings probalby only the WCE/FG deal was where we barrelled a club. even decent blues admit that pick 4 was more than fair for hamill.

Keeping the players we have kept and putting Hammer on such a long term contract answers that one for me.

Getting Blight even though it did not work out in the long run and FG, AH at the same time was the last time we were truly having a crack at it we need to take this action again, under the new board and with the retirements that we have had its time to grab a very good player/s from another club someone that has had the time put in from another club yet we get the rewards.

Josh Fraser and Fev would make a difference IMO or even Blake from the cats if he is thinking he has been shafted and wants to move on, these type of already proven players should be grabbed.

We need to let someone go weather it be a Milney or a Bakes if there is interest out there from other clubs but only if we can get the rewards in the deal, i think we should trade strongly this year because of Judd situation and we may end up with someone very good because of what WC want.

We are to honourable its time to get serious and make some changes to our list and stop hoping that some of our listed players are going to come up to AFL finals standard because some that we play would get smashed come finals time a little like the Kagas did this year but this is only my opinion and its hard to tell until we are put in that position which is another problem in itself

DO SOMETHING SAINTS lets get it going again

Dan, the Eagles received Daniel Kerr with the pick we gave them for Gehrig.

Not sure how we screwed them over there.

I think we've been "brutal" enough, although maybe on-field we could have stood up a bit more often.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

they took daniel kerr with pick 14 or something, that was smart selection, look at some of the lesser lights that went before Kerr.

IMO if there was a draft now, kerr would be top 5.

FG was clearly worth an earlier pick, probably top 5, we had them over a barrel and won on trade. WCE getting kerr for pick 14 was like us getting monty, Dal Santo and maguire as late as we did.

kerr was taken with pick 18...the selection we traded with david sierawoski (sp?) for Fraser Gehrig

yep kerr would go a lot higher NOW.

pick 18 for a player of the calibre of FG even throwing in siera was a definate win for us.

At the time Gehrig was sort of going off the rails and had had a couple of poor seasons where he was fairly inconsistent.

His currency was not as high, and no-one thought he would ever dominate at FF like he did.

Still, we secured him, which for the 16th ranked club at the time was a big deal.

collingwood were feral we got him, and we had WCE over a barrel because we could have got him for free in teh PSD. collingwood offered more but he refused to be traded to collingwood.

I believe essendon and carlton were also interested but weren't willing to go as high as collingwood, or match our promised contract price for FG.

i remmeber the collingwood and essendon fans in raptures when he was injured early on

yes we got him, and for less than collingwood were willing to pay WCE for him as well.

but regardless of whether you think we won on this trade or not, generally under the regime of GT/RB/Beveridge/BW etc st kilda has attempted to trade fairly within the tenets of trying to get young talent to the club.

remember 04 when we were roughing up the likes of Essendon and they didn't like it much? now there's where we need to get back to.

someone said somewhere else here, that bakes should play more of a protection type, as in 04 - 05, bloody good idea! get some more and Dal & Bally will become elite; give them the protection that Judd was getting at the weagles, hmm
