Carlton throwing $$$$$$$$ at Bakes !!

Post: # 467547Post Eastern »

I heard Gerard Healey on 3AW saying that Carlton are throwing mega bucks at Bakes. They tried with Kosi and failed.

Perhaps they have a preference for Judd & Murphy NOT to have to play against him !!

Wow, if they're so intent on scoring themselves a Saint, maybe we can sell them Raymond

Not sure I'd be throwing that much money at Baker. Good ordinary tagger who is more valuable to us than to anyone else. Strange recruiting target for mine.

Yeah, but Carlton have had some strange recruiting practices for a few years now. Does the name, Cain Ackland ring a bell   !!

It's a very Carlton tactic. Throw enough money around and some of it will stick. Given that Kosi, Goose, Dal and who knows who else from other clubs turned them down, they're getting desperate.

I suppose it does make sense though, does Carlton have any taggers? Having the likes of Gibbs and Murphy be able to train and play with one of the best would help them enormously.

Good point. I retract my comments!

Recent history includes Mick Martyn, Glen Bowyer, Daniel Harford and David Clarke doesn't it?

Yes, strange indeed.

I would take a 2nd round pick for him and develop both mini and fisher in that position.

Love the guy but the club is bigger then the individual.

doubt there is too much substance to this...

Why would Carlton throw big bucks at Baker when they are chasing Judd? Combined with Fev and Stevens they would start to get some heavy salary cap pressures. And they still got Gibbs, Murphy, Carazo (wrong spelling) Sentana and few others coming out of contract in the next year or two all which deserve a heft pay rise.

by the way we would want at least 11 top 10 picks for Baker.

I said it on another thread, i heard the other day that BAKERS contract is done and just waiting for him to return from his holiday, which I do believe is this weekend!

Bakes is going no where, don't believe he will go anywhere, not for one second.

Yes - memories !
Who could forget Mick Martyn playing his 300th game.
What a proud day that was in the glorious history of Carlton. :D :D

Perhaps they will one day be able to celebrate Ackland's 100th game.
They should celebrate it on his 99th to honour his patented move of always going too early.

If i had to, i'd rather trade him for a player than a draft pick.

any club would pay a max of a low second rounder because of his suspension. i'd only trade him for a jason winderlich type and a high draft pick

Baker (minus Hayes) is the only element of toughness within our team.

Many on here under-rate how important he really is.

I agree on his importance to US, but would other clubs necessarily see the same things as we do? I mean, to me, this is like making a big offer to Jason Blake. Bakes, as much as I love him, isn't worthy of all this carry on.

Maybe I'm underestimating Carlton's recruiting people. Are other clubs looking at him?

Why the hell would Carlton want him?

He will be long retired by the time they are half-decent, he would stall the development of their number one draft picks and he'll miss the first 5 (?) weeks of 2008.

And he is nowhere near as effective as he used to be. Elite midfielders have gotten bigger, stronger and faster while Bakes has slowed down.

His presence around the club and the one or two decent years he has left are worth more to us than a late third round draft pick.

Why does everybody here rate Baker so poorly? Has he been suspended so long you can't remember how he plays? :?
