have been listening

when did they say that?

News report only mention a man reported in Street....a bit rowdy etc.

Have not heard mention of drugs in any report.
It was mentioned on SEN that they asked WA police if drugs were part of the death and they said that is something they will be investigating.
No eaarlier between 1 and 2 o'clock in a 'sports report' with Matt ThompsonTony Schiabecki? on Doran's show he stated a 'drug related heart attack'.

Yes, I heard that too. I was referring to a 'news report earlier on SEn where the sports news headlines were mentioned and no discussion between Doran and Schiabecki.

By the form of questioning

Will you be investigating re drugs

something we will investigate

(have not ruled out anything at this stage)

ie waiting to coroner report

Does not imply anything but typical spin by journos

(Did hear a later grab of supposed news)

Which makes a bit of a mockery of the "beware the evil of drugs" line that this event will be used to support.
Er no it doesn't. If it is indeed what you suggest, may I point out that there is a 10-fold increase in the rate of suicide amongst those who have substance use problems.
Er yes it does. The line I was referring was the one suggesting that Mainwaring's death was accidental and drug-related, and you know it.

So pull your head in and don't appropriate my statement to apply to dual-diagnosis mental illness / substance abuse speculation about this death.

It's funny. I remember when the voting came out for the 2002 Rising Star award and Chris Mainwaring was the only guy to give Chris Judd 5 votes and Nick Riewoldt 4.

I thought he was just being a WA homer. Turns out he knew what he was talking about.

My condolences go out to his family.

The Phoenix Suns and St.Kilda Saints should have at least 5 championships between them since their sudden surge to elite status in 2004.

Actual championships: 0

RIP Mainwaring......was an awesome player and part of the a team that brought a new dimension to the VFL from 1987 onwards (back when interstate teams were still of novelty value!).

I bet Judd is glad to be out of the club now..........

on the channel 10 news at 11 o'clock the sports presenter came straight out and said he died of a drug overdose, and i thought maybe he should have put a 'possible' in front of that

wouldn't be surprised if drugs had something to do with it, considering the apparent culture at the WCE and his actions shortly before his death

cousins was one of the last to see him alive

http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=301171

It has since emerged that one of the last people to spend time with Mainwaring was one of his close friends, Ben Cousins, who is believed to have been with Mainwaring late yesterday.

wwos.com.au understands Chris Mainwaring phoned Ben Cousins and asked him to come over to his home. It's believed Cousins stayed only a short time. According to Brad Hardie, Brownlow medallist and commentator for Perth radio station 6PR, Mainwaring has been in the midst of a "personal crisis".

Still it's an interesting link.
And one I am sure we will hear a lot lot lot more about.

perhaps cousins was trying to return the favour as mainwaring was going through a tough period in his personal life. maybe marriage problems, i guess. they haven't been too specific about it

I have a funny memory of Chris M.

One week back in the mid 90s the official injury list in the paper said

West Coast - Mainwaring - Scrotum

Only topped by the week they had

West Coast - Wurrpunda - Sick mother

(and so say all of us).

The report also said that his wife and children were on a farm at the time of his death. Many people had apparently found out before she did. Lucky for a friend who let her know.
Sounds very very sad, just maybe his whole world was falling apart and he just lost all control of himself.
