. . . true - but are 'we a club' if a President does not communicate effectivey with its members, something has to give eventually.

We are lucky enough to have the internet to discuss issues and at least have some second hand understanding of what is isn't going on. What have the members got that don't use the internet? The Hun and the package in the mail from FF.

Why doesn't Rod send out some information in the mail? If its a clever psychological ploy then so be it - but if its not he is crucifying himself. I'll wager that many of the 8,200 proxies in the hands of FF have come in from non internet users and people who only use the official site, which is sparce with info to say the least.

What is all this crap?

To me it's real simple. Butters et al are in charge. They are being challenged by someone else.

And, if you're a member, you get to vote for the incumbents or the challengers.

What's all the fuss about?

It's all about not making a choice that might send the club back to the financial incompetence that dogged us until Plympton saved us from extinction.
And Butterss has put us into the black.

Taking a punt on a new Board is a big risk.
The current Board, who have righted the ship, deserve the chance to build on their financial success.

What an excellent summation of the situation. I concur totally and as you have stated , by voting for FF does not mean we don't appreciate what the current Board has a achieved but it is all about going forward from here and winning a premiership, now that we are in a position to do so

I'm glad people are at least reading what I say..I'm after all only after one thing at OUR club -success and lots of it and long-term survival. If it looks like I'm on Butters side, then so be it, frankly I dont care about Butters as such and care even less about Westaway. There is current board in place, the club is doing wha't required whilst keeping in budget and planning for the future..that is all I ask and I expect we will have a good 2008 as a result. What I don't like is to see challenges to that stability as I see that as taking the club backwards and as a long term supporter I have seen the damage these kind of aggesive board challenges do.

I think we can say that whoever gets in as a board needs to create a more friendly club attmosphere, with more communication with members, develop ways to create social facilties that can be accessed by every member not only after the game but during the week.

IMO this whole event is another example of our football club (including the supporters) sabotaging itself in its quest for the ultimate prize.... Yes RB has his faults (don't we all) and he has made some silly errors at different stages of his journey as president of our club but in many ways our club has never been in better shape.

If you look at history how many clubs have had a change of board (or coach) and then won a premiership in the following year(s)? We lost this year due to the unsettling nature of a new coach, shall we lose 2008 as well due to the unsettling nature of a change of board?

Stability is the KEY.

Geelong, at the end of last year, were talking board changes and coach sackings. Had they gone this way I doubt very much that they would be playing this afternoon. They had a horrid season (worse than our season this year) yet chose the stable path, had a good hard look at themselves and then made some major internal changes. (by this I mean within each person). I am not a huge fan of RB and have no issues with GW....My thing is stability and persistence. Too many times our club has gone looking for quick fixes and overnight solutions - always shying from self examination and internal change which is far more challenging yet a much deeper, effective and long term solution. Look at the way we sabotaged our 1998 season.

I assist people to achieve greatness in their lives (as a coach and mentor) and on so many occasions, just when a person is about to give up on themselves, they actually are on the verge of something big. If they persist usually a massive breakthrough follows and their life changes. It is no different for a collective entity such as a football club. It is in our culture (the unconscious of the club).... we are a loser and victim mentality at this club. A club that is always looking for fast solutions to end short term pain and unless this culture changes we will just keep repeating the same old patterns until we're all old and dying and still waiting for that cup.

We are on the verge of something BIG, we have some great players, a good coach and the league is incredibly even. Will we sabotage it again and set ourselves back for another 10 years or will we face the challenge, move through it and take the hard and testing road (the only road to glory)? Now is a time to redefine our patterns, to stand up and say we really want this, we really want to experience success and we are prepared to work through our 'stuff' to get there (just like Geelong did). Now is not the time to sack the board and look for a quick fix....again.

Here's the thing...success comes from desire, persistence and a vision....a united one that is unwavering and immutable. I

A change of board will not bring us our success it will just repeat the same old patterns....again. Only a change in culture, stability and a willingness to confront our demons will bring us what we really want but don't believe we're good enough to have....Success.

Total awareness, if you believe in unity, why are you so impressed with a board which turned the club upside down by sacking GT and let personal politics get in the way, pretty much destroying our hopes of a flag in the next 12 months?

I think we need to vote for the unity, not maintain the divide-and-conquer-believe-or-burn-profits-over-wins mentality.

To me, voting for unity is a vote to stabilise the club.

FWIW, I'm sure SFF won't bung our finances. They'll get it right - there's too much pressure on them not to keep pulling big profits.

I think the profits they pull will be marginally smaller, but the results we have on and off-field will be substantially better and this club will get itself back on track.

It might also reconnect itself with the membership base. We're more than customers.

‘Unity’ and ‘Stability’

The incumbent board has one defected member, one other planning to join the board challenging ticket and another threatening a staff member in the car park when staff morale is at an all time low doesn’t represent my understandings of these words or anything like them.

'Unity and Stability' ?????????????

LOL!

- Hiring of GT causes friction & issues
- Sacking of GT causes even greater friction & issues
- Embarrassing public spat between ex-coach & president causes deep divisions & issues for club
- Due to poor processes Ex-coach is suing the club, causing more destabilisation
- Mass exodus of key management staff
- Worst injury management practices in the competition, probably costing us a flag...
- Primative recuiting practices creates inability to build on foundation of core talented players
- Friction, dispute & disruption between board members
- President & CEO step on each other's toes and fumble key council discussions
- After 5 yrs we have yet to resolve our training facilities and fall behind other clubs
- Admin staff overworked & underpaid and develop deep frictions with board
- Unable to maintain key sponsors due to poor servicing & poor business credibility in market place
- Players unhappy with current board as evidenced by Thommo joining rebel ticket as soon as he retires

I could go on.....

Have posed this question on "Iwant this for our guys" but it's probably more relevant here. Would like to know how the "benfits/advantages " of Social Club Membership [apart from guaranteed Grand Final ticket-yet to be tested] compares to other AFL Clubs. I've been a member for ages & have seen a great decline in what we recieve for our extra $'s.

In terms of sending us backwards financially ...

I think we have to have enough faith in the alternative ticket and the people who are on it.

Would one of the three fairly successful businesspeople on that board want to be associated with a venture where they walked into a healthy operating surplus and no debt, and be responsible for taking that backwards?

It doesn't look good on your CV if you have been part of a board responsible poor financial performance. Notwithstanding the ego side of it (i.e. aversion to failure), there is a professional competence aspect.

Excellent post saintsRrising ... I too want us to feel like a club again. At the moment we feel like an organisation with a board separated from a football department and a supporter base.

We need to be reconnected ... that is where a lot of the anti-Butterss sentiment is coming from. People don't feel engaged with RB and the board and their direction for the club.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

If the challengers promise to bring back the candy striped heritage jumper that we wore for three years from 2004 to 2006 as our clash jumper and tell the AFL to get stuffed if it doesn't meet fatboys criteria, then they get my vote

Lets all hope that it gets done and dusted soon....however even the November date is not really that long to wait.

If as it seems FF will get up......they can, and actually should, be planning now.

Possibly it may hurt us during the draft period.....but I don't think so.....as it was not ever really likely that Judd would join us. The off-field inducements that Pratt and Eddie would be offering Judd will be immense.

If Westaway wanted to match Eddie and Pratt...then there is nothing stopping him from stumping up to Judd's manager.

In the meantime:

*Misson can start work.......and get to know Ross smith and the AIS guys

* Ross L can make the tough calls on our list

*Our new ex-Ctas recruiting guy will be hard at work...
