Thanks.

Has anyone noticed that Thompson guy in the cats' backline, apparently he is not an AFL listed player, he could be worth having a look at depending on age...

Armoo you beat me to it. He is a gun, his ability to read the ball off hands and in the air is amazing. He is playing loose though. However he has good pace and strength - i would suggest a few clubs would be looking at him

Anyone think henry playfair is worth a shot, was starting to come good last year but havnt seen much of him this year. You could only think he would be prepared to move as he is getting no oppotunities at geelong.

a friend who mentors all the players at geelong has told me that playfair and gardiner both have a poor attitude and will not be missed by the cats

Djerrkura didn't do much.
Lonergan dominated, 6 goals including 5 in the third quarter, he also kept Riewoldt quite when he played the first half in the backline.
Prismall did well, Geelong should see if they can get a first rounder out of him.
Playfair and Gardiner were good.
King was good according to the commentators, I didn't notice him that much.
Silvester from the tigers is a dud of the highest order.
Casserly and Connors were disappointing and P.Bowden will/should be delisted, can't cut it at VFL level let alone AFL.
Grima and Gamble looked dangerous at times.

Henry Playfair.

Late 2006, St Kilda vs. Geelong at Telstra Dome.

3rd quarter ... crucial stage, about 3 goals the difference.

Hunt kicks to Playfair in Geelong's F50m ... he just stands there and waits for the footy to come to him.

Chips runs up behind and spoils, BJ picks the ball up, handpasses back to Chips who runs 40m and kicks a goal for the Saints.

Game over.

Henry Playfair never played AFL again.

(Actually he played 1 game 12 months later, and then never played again)

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

And then Lonergan didn't want to make the same mistake the next week and cost himself a kidney.

Okay.

I'll ammend the post.

That moment defined Playfair's career ... I remember Bomber Thompson said after the game that he thought it was poor and a critical point in the match.

Playfair will probably be delisted.

So he will have played 1 AFL match after Chips ended his career ...

An interesting stat to come out of today's game;

Geelong had 18 AFL listed players (incl rookies) in their side

Coburg had 11 AFL listed players (incl rookies) in their side

This would suggest that Geelong had a huge advantage when it comes to structure. It also suggests that they have bugger all injuries

I also note that Collingwood will be fielding a stand alone VFL side next year. The costs must be huge, but do the benifits outweigh the costs? !!

Yeah I remember that moment. Was watching it on TV, and in the minute or so afterwards, I remember BT, JB and Garry Lyon going on about Playfair's (lack of) dukes, whcih is where I got the quote in my sig from. Also to note, in the game he played this year (against port), it was him who handballed the ball to Cassisi who scored the winning goal.

Watched the WAFL Colts GF today saw Rances swannies flog claremont! He played fairly well played full back the first half, kept his man goaless.
Second half played midfield and ruck role, got a few hitouts and touches.

Dal Santo + Hayes + Ball = AA midfield

i think we're missing the best part of the VFL GF, the numerous punch-ons in the second quarter were quite entertaining

how did Coburg make the GF anyway, cos they looked about as hopeless as Richmond have all year

It's been a known fact that teams who link before a big match like that usually end up being beaten.

We did it in 1997, and the trend has continued in many sporting arenas since.
