If PA knock off the Kangas......the Cats will not have it as easy in the ruck against them with Lade and Brogan.

Ottens really kept the Cats in it....and he showed what an influence that a good ruckman can have.

The Pies pace and run certainly bothered the Cats....and PA are quick....

Yeah, it was a shame that they lost by 5 points :( I actually wanted them to win

And to think that the Saints went through the same thing in 2004, losing the Preliminary Final against Port Adelaide.

I wasn't too pleased with the umpiring though.....

Ottens is not that. He was essentially playing against two Rixes.

Indeed....the cats would be very thankful that they traded for Ottens....without him the Pies would have rolled them.

Geelong could have put the Pies away a couple of times. 4 points in 5 minutes at the start of the 3rd quarter could have hurt

Pies got the vast majority of 50-50 free kicks

The better side won on the night IMHO, Cleaner when it counted

not only ottens though...
I mean sure, he got the tap, but he tapped it to colingwood players many times.
well done to the Geelong midfield for being able to gain possesion and get it out of the center.

Pies are crap, couldn't even beat Crows in round 22.

Why on earth would you want them to win.

Cats needed the run tonight and will demolish whomsoever they play next week.

Well they were better than us this year, they played finals and didn't have to hope another team would lose to get into the 8

If the pies were crap then what would you call the other 12 clubs that didn't make a prelim final this weekend ha

sorry but you can't make a statement when we didn't even make the 8 this year..... get over the fact they didn't win in round 22, the fact was we were not good enough and had to hope the crows would lose to make the 8.. we were simply not good enough.. end of story

The only team that matters to me is the Saints.

In the end the only reason we didn't make the finals, is the inability of Collingwood to beat the Crows in round 22, otherwise we would have played finals football. Fact.

If you have to rely on other teams winning to make the 8, means we have not won enough games in the first place to get into the 8.
FACT we were not good enough, hence we didn't play finals.

yeah you have summed that up to a tee.
If you don't hold that silverwear up at seasons end.... it means nothing, making the 8 or not.

It wasn't the Collingwood - Adelaide game that kept us out of the finals. It was the Collingwood - St.Kilda game when we were 20 points up in the last quarter and couldn't win.

Reverse that result and we make the 8, Collingwood doesn't.

Hi there DSG and thanks for your perspective regarding Bernard Shakey(?)'s thought provoking posts once again. Most of us know the real answer there.

Anyways with regards to the above I agree in some ways but in other ways to make the top 8 and get some finals game into your younguns is invaluable, so would stand u in better stead for having those finals games as experience to draw upon. We had a number of players under 21, now the experience that these guys would have endured this campaign can only benefit them for future finals experiences.

We had one guy out there last night who had never picked up a football until last year and wasnt far from best on last night.

The advantage of playing in the finals isn't just experience - it is important financially, for the club in terms of revenue; and also helps the club attract sponsorship dollars.

i think the thing that stuck ito my mind is when the pies over ran us about how it was seen as such a bigg thing about how bad we were but in retrospect we were really seeing the pies come of age
