I would have to say the worst of that lot was Tim Elliot.

And that Greek guy, i can't remember his name. The one with the terrible skills and yetti legs.
Watched Schwarze play on the weekend, know now why we got rid of him.

I am not bagging Billy Barrott, he was a great player for the Tiges, it was just obvious at the time he didnt want to come to Moorabin. It was also obvoius at the time that Ian Stewart was more than happy to go to Punt Rd.

the biggest waste of having a player on the list would go to m.clarke
133 yr old retiree who has never done anything...no aa,no state games,no finals,no talent...yet he was going to lead us to the wholly grail

1.Plapp - dud of the highest order
2.Tim Elliot - see above
3.Clinton Jones - makes me extremely nervous seeing as though he cannot kick a football, plus lacks decision making abilities
4.Jason Trinidis - need i say any more
5.Mqualter (i hope i eat my words here, however) but atm simply does not cut it

C'mon Justin Plapp wasn't too bad.

Sure he didn't make it but he played some good games for us and certainly does not deserve to be in the worst of category...

I remember this one game V Port, I think it was after GT took over from MB, Port were in control and they just kept bombing it forward and Plapp from a HBF took about a 1/2 dozen marks and repelled attack after attack.
Then in the second half they swung him forward where he took a few big grabs, kicked 3-4 and practically got us back in the match... ended going down by 2goals but were trailing by about 40 points at 1 point.

IMO he had the right stuff... certainly not like Elliot, Chad Davis, Oliver and Gavin Mitchell

It's a forum not a newspaper im sure the players mentioned would even care what we say.

i'm sure the players care more about what the supporters think than the opinion of a journalist.

There was a player about whom Alan Jeans once said he didn't know what was harder, getting him up for his single game or Barry Breen for his 300th. It was the late '70s but can't remember the guys name, Cannon, maybe?

Worst player I think I've seen for us was Matthew Capuano. How that giant pile of uselessness ever won 2 premierships is beyond me.

Pick 7 overall I think.

with that pick John Beveridge wanted too pick a young guy from Wodonga by the name of Fraser Gehrig, Alves said no and the rest is history

I thought strooper dates back to sheldon times?

but in the early to mid 90s we reverted to being a retirement village again, a mistake we made in the 80s, we rinced and repeated under timmid with delany, francis and monkey coming for their pension cheques.

i do hope dont go down that path again. Clarke has been a wasted slot on our roster and only time will tell whether Gardiner contributes anything.

Josh Houlihan.

Was touted as being the best of the Houlihan brothers, yet never played a game for us, and I doubt he even got close, despite our crippling injury list in 02/03.

He's ripping it up in the VFL nowadays.

Inside football did an article on him a while ago. Put it down to imaturity of both the mind and the body for why he didnt have an AFL career.

That 1993/94 period really hurt the club. Plugger's last year they brought in Frost & Strooper (overlooked Gehrig) drafted Chris Oliver instead of Harford (who turned into a hack as the game got faster but was a VIC rep in the mid 90's). 94 was Alves' 1st year and he tried to quick fix based on the fact that we were flying in 92, started 93 on fire (until Winmar went walkabout) and still had a very good core.

It's amazing that clubs still take these short cuts, very few have ever worked out.

Alby Smedts (although we did trade Russsell Tweedale for him so it was probably an even trade)

Ben Walton
First round pick. No 15 overall

John Beveridge had pencilled in Nick Stevens, but Alves had seen a tape of Walton where he kicked six goals in a quarter in South Australia and said "That's our man".

Stevens eventually went to Port at pick 25!

Whoops.

Coaches should stick to coaching and let recruiters do what they're paid to do.

Timmy almost did the same thing with Lenny.

He wanted Murray Vance instead, but the blues took him with pick 9 or whatever, which means we got our second choice Lenny......thank christ for that.

There have been some pretty average players to wear St.Kilda jumpers in the past, but i name this guy by being the worst on his attitude and contempt towards the club.

 BARRY-FARKING-HALL

Has allegedly been overheard talking about his days at St.Kilda as "the wasted years"

This piece of sh*t should never be welcome back again... ever!
