where does fraser stand ?

Post: # 449167Post st_Trav_ofWA »

sorry if this has been posted b4 but i seldom look past the first page of SS

but i was wondering what we all though about where the big G stands in respect to our all time greats ??
surely Plugger would still be or greatest full forward and debates could be had on who is greater doc harves barker big carl .....
but where would frase fit in ? would you say top 10 maybe top 20 or top 50 or lower ??? ?

true. perhaps i should have said he started at another club. lockett and ditterich made their names at st kilda. gehrig made his name at west coast. people will mark him down because of that.

could he make our team of the century? not at full-forward, but would make a pretty handy forward pocket

140 games, 381 goals for St Kilda

2nd B&F 2001
Leading Goalkicker 2003 - 2007
All-Australian 2004
Coleman Medal 2004, 2005

Only three players have kicked more goals for the club (Loewe, Lockett, Mohr).

Definitely would be in our best team of the last 20 years.

Have to be top 40 ever to play for the club IMO.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Fraser was good but I can think of 20 sraight away that I would put before him. Would struggle to make my team of the last twenty years. Let alone top 20 of all time.

Perhaps another question would be who was our greatest full forward?

IMO Plugger would be 1, Gtrain 2, and going from what I've actually seen, I would rate George Young 3.

Plugger and Mohr are easily the best full-forwards we've had ...

Gehrig was good, but Mohr kicked 750-odd in under 200 games, and so did Plugger.

G would be in our top 10 "Cult Heros" over the past 40 years !!

1. Harvs

2. Plugger

3. Carl

4. Barks

5. Cowboy

6. G

George Young played mainly on the half forward flank. Bill Young was our full forward in the 1950s and won the goal kicking for the league with around 54 goals I think.

True, but since 2003 (when G was made a permanent FF) he averaged 3.4 goals a match for the last 5 years. In this day and age that is about as good as you're gonna get from a FF, i think only Lloyd may have done better in that time.
