Where were you?

Post: # 449155Post saintbrat »

when you heard about Fraser's retirement.

just out of curiosity as to how people get t information

I gather some heard pregame BUt many didn't ?

I heard on radio as strong rumour- then when he clapped the cheersquad it felt true- Radio commentators were still debating,

Interesting to listen to the TV commentary where they felt that it hadn;t been announced because the Saitns were still trying to talk him out of it :)

TO me it felt the right way for Fraser and at least we had the game to acknowledge him.

he also seemed more free with his radio/media time- relaxed- after the game.

I was on my way home from the game when I heard it on Triple M.... could not believe it.... was gutted I didn't get to acknowledge it was his last game, although I had a feeling.... now I understand the cheering after the goal.

Was told at about 1.45 that the rumour was on radio..then when Fraser waved to the Cheer Squad we just knew. Totally confirmed when the players mobbed him after that final goal

We heard the rumour on the Radio and then when we saw him clap the cheer squad and shake hands with the players we knew.

I was in denial for the course of the game hoping it wasn't true. The scenes at the end obviously confirmed it.

I am still depressed about it.

One of my friends messaged me to tell me they had heard it on the radio I didn't believe it at first but when I saw him wave to the CS I knew it was he's last game. We'll miss you G, thanks for the memories!

My wife was listening to the radio with an earpiece and was trying to tell me as the players ran out that Gehrig had retired.
I kept telling her that she must have misheard it as speculation.
She kept insisting.
I told her I had looked on the website before we left and there was nothing.
She kept insisting.

By half time I was apologising !

Found out when I got home from being out, turned the TV on Channel 10 and watched the last 10 minutes of your game (not live) and then I see Gehrig getting chaired off. I'm like WTF???

I always admired this guy for his take no prisoners attitude.

I wasn't at the game on Sat but heard about Fraser on the radio during the game. Even though I had suggested to a few that it might be Fraser's last game, I still gasped out loud when it was confirmed. Was very fond of Fraser. He was so talented and so funny. Have to say that his shot for goal after the siren was a fabulous end for him - so glad he didn't miss.

i was at the game. i saw G clap the crowd at the start of the game, hoping he was just saying thanks for the season, but then was told they had it on the radio. i even shed a tear when he was being carried off. A great guy. he might look mean but he has 'the most beautiful blue eyes!!!'

I figured it out after he kicked that final goal after the siren and the entire team mobbed him. I thought there was a chance he might, but hadn't heard anything beforehand. As soon as I saw the team mob him, I knew that was it. Very emotional time.

I was at the game and got a text from my brother on the central coast NSW, who said (with the Saints down on the scoreboard) "You'd think they'd be trying harder for Thommo and G".

I responded - "For Thommo. Why G?"

Text back - "Because he's retiring".

I rang him then "What are you talking about?" He said G had announced it to the players prior to the game, and he'd heard it on the radio.

Then when he was mobbed after the last goal, that confirmed it.

At the game, Seeing the G train saluting the cheer squad, then hearing it being 'confirmed' on triple M. However, I was still clinging on the hope that he wasn't to retire. For me, it was all confirmed when Frase took his shirt off and got chaired off, it will still take me some time to get over it.

well friday night was my 19th and me and my mates hit the p1ss pretty hard the night before so with minimal sleep we made our way to the game.. we decided to turn triple m footy on the radio and heard that thommo was going to play so we went back to the cd player.

in the last quarter i said something about fraser and how he will dominate the nlast 10 minutes and a lady in front of me said "you do know he announced his retirement", must admit i was shocked and disappointed.

happy he went out with a bang and was happy to have a drink for him on the way home

I was at the game but i arrived late. So i didnt see Frase clapping when he ran through the banner, but n1ck texted me and told me, and then i overheard people around me talking about how sad it was that Frase was retiring.

My dad called me as I was getting into the ground about the "rumour", and then I saw that him and Thommo led the side out, and after he saluted the cheersquad then I knew.
The goal after the siren was lovely, really.

I heard just before the game - was told that he has just stated that this will be his last game - I didn't know that club officials were still hoping to talk him out of it. I grabbed a seat near the race so I could get some pics after the match but at the end there were so many people around me that all I could see was the back of banners etc. Apart from a few glimpses I watched his post match antics on the big screen.

Gotta love that big unit - he will be dearly missed by me.

I read it on here. It literally took my breath away when I saw the headline that he had retired.
