Should today be the first match of our 2008 pre-season?

I reckon so.

It's a free hit for so many of our players today...

I hope we trial some completely new and different things.

ST KILDA
B: Sam Gilbert, Matt Maguire, Leigh Fisher
HB: Matt Ferguson, Nick Riewoldt, Raphael Clarke
C: Aaron Fiora, Clinton Jones, Shane Birss
HF: James Gwilt, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Xavier Clarke, Fraser Gehrig, Sam Fisher
FOLL: Matthew Clarke, Jarryn Geary, Andrew Thompson
I/C: Lenny Hayes, Jason Gram, Robert Harvey, Stephen Milne
EMG: Jason Blake, Nick Dal Santo, Luke Ball

- Promote Thompson, give Ball the week off.
- Jones is going to play. Well, test him out and stick him on the ball for as much game time as he can handle. I don't think he's up to it, but let's give him a real chance.
- If Geary is eligible to play, play him. Maybe even give NDS the week off.
- Ferguson: Should play as much game time as possible. Perhaps try Sam Fisher out up forward, where he was drafted to play, and see if he's got the capacity to play at both ends? Ferguson can handle his running-tall role out of defence today.
- Birss: see Jones.
- R Clarke: Play him on Nathan Brown for the first half – show him how intelligent players play the game.
- L Fisher: can he tag? Why not try it for a quarter or half with Deledio.
- Get Koschitzke out of the ruck and to CHF. Perhaps swap Clarke and Blake - Make Clarke ruck for 3/4 of the game (give him a nice send-off, even though that's completely irrelevant).
- Give Riewoldt a crack at CHB to help out Maguire, who'll be at FB - give Fisher and Koschitzke a go up forward.
- Gwilt can play of a HFF flank: he did it in 2005. Why not try him there?

Let's not make it a wasted day. Don't just do the regulation things, Ross. St Kilda has blown it for 2007 - so start work on 2008 now.

Well yeah, but I doubt he's 100% fit, actually.

Gram and X Clarke could also be candidates given a lot of posters don't believe they are injury free.

No point in playing players who can aggrevate exisiting injuries today, and that's my worry about NDS.

I've got Riewoldt at CHB. He's the best CHB in the league - he just never plays there.
