Matthew LLoyd - Was that goal dropping the ball?

Post: # 441602Post The Saintsational Man »

Hey guys,

Interested in your input.

Watching Lloyd's "Goal of the year", if I recall the rules of the game correctly, it's dropping the ball.

Sure u can go back to the old drop kick days.....but a drop kick is all in 1 motion.

Lloyd dropped the ball on the ground then kicked it backwards.....

"Free kick to Carlton dropping the ball" in reality!!!

Not to mention he pushed the bloke in the back!!

Personally I thought Milney's GOAL was better

They wouldn't dare take the goal off the open mouthed drooling moron.

Have you ever noticed he has the features of a blow up doll when he is shooting for goal. Oh, and that can't possibly be his natural hair colour.

In case you hadn't noticed I despise the diving cheat.

Even though the Drop-Kick's drop-kick was a bit slower in its execution that the drop-kicks that us old-timers were used to, it would still count as an intentional disposal by foot, which is allowed in the rules.

As an ex-umpire I can assure all of you that there is no such rule for 'Dropping the Ball'. There is 'Holding the Ball' or 'Throwing the Ball' but not 'Dropping the Ball'.

Wasn't there a dropping the ball decision paid to Hamill against Fremantle several years ago?

It would've been 'Holding the Ball'. When the umpire makes that signal with both arms starting inwards and then sweeping outwards, the signal if for Holding the Ball.

Hamil may have actually dropped the ball in this instance, but the decision would have been for Holding the Ball. Make sense :?:

It went to Hamill, it created quite a bit of controversy.

Could dropping the ball not be seen as incorrect disposal?

I don't actually remember the incident you're talking about, but there is incorrect disposal, which is covered by the rule 'Throwing the Ball'. However, simply dropping the ball is technically not against the rules.
