If CJ gets a spot this week...

Post: # 439496Post Otiman »

If Clint Jones gets a spot this week, the boys need to get to him and shave that head of his. It worked for Gwilt, taking the media spotlight off him and allowing him to concentrate on playing some good footy.

Either that, or stick him in #12 and play him at CHF as a Decoy.

Only one problem with your theory - since when did Gwilt play good footy?

gwilt did quite well in an injury ravaged back line early in the season, he also did ok in the forward line and has more than a few 'bests' in the reserves.

IMO gwilt is too much like v2 and blake who are currently ahead of him for the utility role, too slow to play a runner, too short to play a KPP, he is a useful utility.

will get game times.

Obviously you didn't notice him after he shaved his head. Theory proven :)

How can he be a usefull utility if he is too short to play KPP and he is too slow to play midfield. :?
A utility is a player that can play a variety of positions and you have just cancelled him out playing most of them in the space of 1-2 sentences.
IMO the best position for Gwilt is on a HFF, he has a big body that he needs to use better and he would be extremely dangerous around goals anywhere within 60m.

If CJ gets a spot this week, I hope it turns out to be chickenpox so that he is not available for Friday's game through illness.

he can play effectively in roles similar to V2, goddard and Blake

he has a big kick on him, but he isn't accurate from his time in the seniors.

he has stood CHB and FB during our time with injuries, and he has played adequately in the forward line on occassion.

I would say he is the kind of player who sits no. 30ish on the list and will come in and fill a role when required.

when running through the middle he's been caught a few times, however when he disposes of the ball quickly and instinctively looks a lot better (a bit like blake and goddard)

Cant compare him to Goddard Dan. Goddard kick accurately over 55 metres, Gwilt couldn't do that. Goddard is an excellent judge of the play as well. Goddard well ahead of Gwilt as he should be.

And hack pup is out again, bowled without troubling the scorers.

In his few games in 2005, Gwilt showed that he was a lovely long distance kick.
Raking left boot.

He has no judgement for medium-short ranged kicks though.

Also, keep it on topic, this thread is about hair (and lack of) :D

But, remember, he played all of his games this season in a period when none of the players were on top of the new game plan. So his uncertain behaviour with the ball in his hands might have been at least partly a symptom of the whole team being uncertain about where to position themselves, where to run to, etc., etc.

No idea how Gwilt turned up in this thread BUT in relation to the OP I think it would be handy for CJ to shave for a couple of reasons. I keep wondering;
a) Why Roo is running so fast
b) Why he can't mark
c) Why he does those funny disposals.

Anyone else done that at a glance? I wonder if the players look up, see a shock of blond hair and boot it up to him?

I also like his effort, I thought he did a couple of worthwhile things against Sydney against the run of play (he worked very hard), I hold up hope that he will improve on the oft-quoted weaknesses he has/is perceived to have.

well in my opinion he has some value, it is true that he is a raking left foot kick, and he can run. I think his options to gain a spot in the best 22 are:

1. play loose off half back and use his long kick as a weapon.
there is 1 problem with this...we have gram and fisher who are daylight ahead of him.

2. as a HFF.. as i have already mentioned he is a good kick, and as a forward he can kick a long goal or 2 ala 2005 finals series.

he should not be used as a key position player
