A victory to Butterss and the Board

Post: # 436269Post Enrico_Misso »

After four successive losses we have finally beaten the Dockers.

Reason ?

Whilst I believe we are a better team.
The real reason is that we have now played them 19 times.

BUT ONLY FOUR TIMES AT OUR "HOME" GROUNDS

- twice at Waverley in 95 & 97
- twice at Docklands in 2004 and today

The other 15 games ?
- 11 at Subi
- 1 at WACA
- 1 at Princes PArk
- 2 at York Park

That also raises another interesting point about how unfair the Draw is.
- why have we played 12 away games out of 19 ??????????

Finally we get to play them at a true home ground instead of that failed York Park experiment.

Result - a win.
How many other wins against the Dockers have we missed out on because of the inequities in the draw and the ill-fated Tasmanian decision ??

Anyway, congratulations to our Board for pulling out of Tassie.
This one is for you Rod.

It was a win . . . fanatastic, love it.

But shouldn't we have factored in this disadvantage when evaluating results over the past 5 seasons?

(sorry . . . couldn't resist  )

To be fair, it is a credit to the administration that we are the ONLY club that has reversed the trend of selling home games interstate.

Great that we didn't sell this game...

But I'd call it a victory more for common sense and logic, rather than for RB and the board.

Fair?

I saw that stat the other day.
I'd be interested to see it between Collingwood-Freo/WCE. It would be pretty lopsided.

Cheers Mr Magic. Isn't it 27,000 needed to make a profit?

C'mon evertonfc, I know it's painful for you to admit it,but just this once give some credit to RB and the Borad for a good decision.

You get plenty of opportunities to bag them for bad ones, it's only 'fair' to give them credit for the good ones.

Pretty please :)

Just a few over 24,000

FOnt have the stats at hand..but I reckon thats our lowest TD crowd since 2003.

IS thye first time weve played Freo there for 3 years..and we havent played PA there for a while either

Still...beat the 18,000 who turned up for the Melb-Doggies game last week

Or the less than 15,000 that turned up to the Dees/PA game earlier this season (or was that Dees/Freo?)

ANd how many did we get to teh Tassie games against Freo and PA? Even with teh 300,000 sling from Tassie Govt I think we will be financially better off even with a crowd of 24,000 at teh Dome.

My point behind this thread is that it is pleasing to see that we are no longer being dictated to by "false" economic models.

So what if we make a loss on the gate receipts today.

It is far more important to get the 4 points.
The lesson is we must not give away HOME games.
It has cost us in the past.
An extra 4 points can make all the difference between home finals / double chances and oblivion.

And my other gripe is that 12 away games out of 19 is 63%.
How does Dimwit explain this in terms of a Level Playing Field ??

Absolutely agree. We and Collingwood are the only Melb-based clubs to play 11 home games at our home ground this season...everyone else shares between TD, the G and in the case of Geelong, Skilled

As far as IM concerned I want that to stay forever. I do NOT want to play Blockbuster games at the G unless its an away game. Home games against Pies and Ess?? play em at TD and fill the place with Saints fans!!

My point is that we shouldn't move "uneconomic" home games against Freo or Port to alternative venues like Tasmania or Canberra/ Gold Coast/ Darwin etc to bost our P&L.

But in terms of "Blockbusters" I am quite happy to move them to The G.
Yes we do make more money there.
But my main line of thinking is that the finals will always be played at the G.
So the more BIG games we play there the better.
Personally I would like us to play there 5 or 6 times a year so we are totally prepared for finals there in terms of ground and crowd dynamics.

It's all about "The Big Picture" and how to best prepare ourselves for a Premiership.
Some years ago when WCE were robbed of a home final Malthouse declared that whilst the club was bitter, he wasn't phased as it was the best possible way for them to prepare themselves for a premiership.

They don't and won't play the GF at Docklands !!!!

I remembering a thread about this last year in regards to the elimiantion final against Melbourne (hyptohetically). Whether we would prefer a final at MCG or TD.

We dont and may not play finals unless we win enough games during the H/A season.
Where do we play better? It's pretty obvious.

I'd much rather make finals (or top-4), than have a MCG-conquering unit miss out on the finals.

Although if our performances at Aurora was close to that of Hawthorn, I would still would have argued for the change.
