To answer the subject of this thread, yes... in a sense he was.

He grew up in Tasmania as a young boy in the late 60's.

I can recall Lane telling his lament of when he was made fun of as a kid at school by his fellow students because he was the lone Carlton supporter amongst a brigade of Doc worshipping Sainters
