Harsh realities...

Post: # 435297Post WinnersOnly »

IMO it is time for a number of our club champions to hang up their boots with dignity -

HARVEY - Has looked tired over last few weeks - his time has come.
GEHRIG - Injuires have caught up with him.
HAMILL - Ditto above
THOMPSON - Time has past him...

We have to face reality that the window of SAINTS winning a flag with the above playing has past. We need to recruit and start developing our next wave of players to take us seriously into finals contention eg Power 2007.

They will all be greatly missed but we need to look to the future!

We will need to recruit more midfielders preferably with pace and or goal kicking abilities.

We still need to find a dominant ruckmen - hopefully GARDINER will become that but we need at least another two coming through.

We have KOSI, WATTS & ALLEN in waiting as possible Full Forwards.

The way the game is played now it will be too quick for HAMILL and IMO even if he can play on he will have limited imput. Best he and the SAINTS come to an agreement and he retires with grace.

with great sadness i agree with you about harvs and thommo

however i still think fraser has something to offer and would benefit from a more attacking game plan. he's only 31 or 32 isn't he?

as for hammer, give him one more shot at it. one more injury and its curtains

Thommo has already said that this will be his last year and there was a thread about it in the last day or so.

Um I dopnt think you understand GEHRIG is a RARE BIG FULL FORWARD you dont throw him away. GEHRIG CAN AND SHOULD PLAY FOR ANOTHER 4 years like ALISTAR LYNCH or LOCKETT.
Gehrig has a BROKEN HAND!!! FFS what can you expect from a guy who has a BROKEN HAND>>>>?????

He has played some great games this year and is running a lot further up the ground than in 2005/2006. Keep him deep and he can play for another 4 years.

Harvey??? the man was a BF around round 10 until reiwoldt too over. Write Harvey off if you want but he is very capable of 1 more year, 2 if he also goes deep forward with frase.

I agree with the other two. Although still believe majorly that HAMIL is needed if nothing more than a assistant coaching role. He is a born leader.

GEHRIG has been great for the club but tell me when was the last time he delivered against a quality opponent?

We seem to have had dozens of new threads calling for the veterans to retire: particularly Thommo, who I understand has already decided to retire, so why keep going on and on about it?

Is the fact that we have a few veterans on our list really the biggest problem we currently face right now as a club?

And do any of the posters who constantly go on and on about Hamill being finished really have even the slightest idea of the medical realities? And if they don't, why do they feel that they have to keep going on and on about it?

At least Voss's selection for the top 22 will shut up those endlessly going on about him for a while.

People say that there is too much on this forum about GT vs RL.

Well, if that's the case, how about we also stop going on about about our old and injured players and how they ought to retire/be delisted?

Unfortunately injuries have caught up with the big Yin. The ankle is my biggest concern as he now has the turning circle of the QEII.

In any case, IMO RL is preparing Fraze for a new career as a centreman as evidence in the past weeks where he sems to spend most his time in the centre circle, most forward of the other 17.

From the footage and other information does it look like Harvey will be back up by the Richmond game?
