Knobel heading home to AFLQ in 2008

AFL GIANT HEADING HOME TO AFLQ IN 2008
http://aflq.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsd ... aid=125080

Giant ruckman Trent Knobel has confirmed to the Gold Coast Bulletin that he will return to Queensland next season and wants to play in the AFLQ Velocity Sports Cup competition.

The only question is with which club.

Knobel was rookie listed by his first AFL club the Brisbane Lions from Broadbeach, although he is reportedly no certainty to return to the Cats.

The 27-year-old told the Gold Coast Bulletin’s longest serving football writer Terry Wilson that he had already spoken to all three Coast Division One clubs.

Labrador are believed to in with as much chance of gaining his services as his former club, particularly with Knobel and wife Meg setting up home in nearby Ashmore.

The Mullumbimby-bred Knobel played under 18s at Surfers Paradise before joining Broadbeach for the 1998 season.

Knobel played 13 games for the Lions in 2000-01 before being traded to St Kilda, where he played 38 games in three seasons.

After being delisted by the Saints, he was given a lifeline by Richmond as the No.1 selection in the 2005 Pre-Season Draft.

He has played 21 games with the Tigers to take his career tally to 75, but none this season due to ongoing ankle injuries.

Standing at an imposing 204cm and 105kg, Knobel would be easily the biggest and strongest ruckman in the competition aside from the Lions reserves side, and he would also offer a valuable marking target in the forward line.

At least it looks like they told their players they're contracts are to be terminated unlike at last years B&F dinner when they announced delisted players before the players themselves were told!

Give it a break. Played 75 more games than you did. Wasn't a great player for the Saints, but doesn't deserve your rubbish

Let's not re-write history. IMO, Knobel was a more than handy tap ruckman, rarely beaten in hit-outs. I can remember in (pretty sure) 2004? he was in the top 6 getting their hands to he ball first.

Personally, did'nt mind him. Remember the night he almost cut poor old Jarrod Brennan in half.

Whats worse is looking back on it, Konbel probably would be our no.1 Ruckman these days. Back then he did more then Rix around the ground, sure it was limited it was more, and he was handy in the hit outs at least.

Stinger, bit harsh. If I remember correctly, GT's lack of regard for ruckman forced his hand. Get crap money or move on? Not really a tough decision.

Played some good games for us - he was a good signing for a swap of picks. Rarely lost a rucking contest, either.

That final against PA - has any player had such an impressive no-posession game? 14 hit-outs in the last quarter - unreal.

Dissapointed we let him go for nothing instead of organising a trade.

Hope he does well in the future.

Yes unreal...do you remember about his last one??

I do...straight to Wanganeen.....goal...win to Port.

Wacking the ball clear to Wanganeen in space in their forward line was not the smartest thing to do :(
