Rank our list on talent/potential

Post: # 434655Post Otiman »

Potential is such a dirty word, but have a go at ranking our list from 1 to 44 in terms of potential, "raw talent" is another way of looking at it.

OK Otiman, as nobody else seems to want to have a go......

But I can't do it from 1 to 44, so I'll do it in groups

ALREADY GOOD, AND UNLIKELY TO GET MUCH BETTER (OR ARE EVEN IN DECLINE)

Baker (but badly out of form ATM)
Ball (main issue is injury)
Matthew Clarke
Gehrig
Hamill (injury an issue again)
Hayes
Hudghton
Milne
Joey
Thompson
Voss

ALREADY GOOD OR EVEN GREAT, BUT STILL SCOPE FOR A BIT OF IMPROVEMENT IN SOME AREAS
Dal Santo
Fiora
Leigh Fisher
Sam Fisher
Gram
Kosi
Maguire
Riewoldt

EMERGING TALENT WITH LOTS OF UPSIDE
David Armitage
Sam Gilbert
Bredon Goddard
James Gwilt

POSSIBLY A FUTURE 200 GAMER, BUT THERE HAVE TO BE SERIOUS DOUBTS
X Clarke
Raphael Clarke
Brad Howard
Andrew McQualter
Justin Sweeney
Fergus Watts

PRETTY ORDINARY AND UNLIKELY TO IMPROVE - PERHAPS WILL BE FRINGE PLAYERS AT BEST UNDER A SENSIBLE SELECTION POLICY
Jayden Attard
Jason Blake
Shane Birss
Barry Brooks
Matthew Ferguson
Clinton Jones
Michael Rix

PLAYERS I HAVEN'T SEEN PLAY
Jarryd Allen
Michael Gardiner (yes, of course I have seen him play, but not for a long while and never for the Saints)
Phillip Raymond
Robert Eddy
Jarryn Geary
Luke van Rheenan
James Wall

Have I left anyone out?

Yeah, but Harvs deserves a category of his own.

I'll have a crack at it. From interstate its a little difficult to pick the last 10 or so in any order as I dont get to see them with the Scorpions

* Steven Baker -15
* Luke Ball -7
* Shane Birss -24
* Jason Blake -22
* Barry Brooks -33
* Raphael Clarke-27
* Xavier Clarke -20
* Matthew Clarke -36
* Nick Dal Santo -2
* Matthew Ferguson -25
* Aaron Fiora -21
* Leigh Fisher -17
* Samuel Fisher -11
* Michael S. Gardiner -9
* Fraser Gehrig-14
* Sam Gilbert -19
* Brendon Goddard -5
* Jason Gram -10
* James Gwilt -35
* Aaron Hamill -16
* Robert Harvey -12
* Lenny Hayes -4
* Brad Howard -40
* Max Hudghton -13
* Clinton Jones -28
* Justin Koschitzke -3
* Matthew Maguire -8
* Andrew McQualter -32
* Stephen Milne -18
* Leigh Montagna -6
* Phillip Raymond -39
* Nick Riewoldt -1
* Michael Rix -29

Justifying the above positions on fit players in form.

Not bad. the only one I have a problem with is Gardiner. Hasnt been any good for at least 3 years so at best I think he will be in the 20's which means he is our second ruckman which is right.

Yeah, Ummed and ahaad about a couple, including Gardiner. I thinked I ranked him high with a lot of hope for the future and past glories. I beleive a fit Gardiner still has a hell of a lot to offer.

IMO, I'd put Fiora in the "PRETTY ORDINARY AND UNLIKELY TO IMPROVE - PERHAPS WILL BE FRINGE PLAYERS AT BEST UNDER A SENSIBLE SELECTION POLICY" group.

1 Nick Riewoldt

34 Michael S. Gardiner
35 Brett Voss
36 Justin Sweeney
37 Andrew Thompson
38 Brad Howard
39 Fergus Watts
40 Jarryd Allen

my list is based upon who is most valubale to base a team around

big men near the top

maguire very high because as wc, swans and now geelong have shown you need an elite back man to go anywhere

#31 will come back next year as that person

the older players drop down the list and some younger ones are alittle unknow to me

I could be wrong but I think Gardiner will prove to be a waste of time, by the time he plays it will be nearly 2.5 years since he really played well, that is just way too long a time

I may have undersold BJ.

hopefully in 08 we will have a back 6 of someting like

6,8,43
25, 31, 18

and we will be cooking

One of Allen and Watts has to come through.

Likewise McQualter or Armitage needs to become A class.

I'll change it a bit and say our best players who we can build a future team from (Harvs is an icon who will retire, so I'll leave him outa this)
Not necessarily in accurate order.. The legend is N= needs to work harder. I=good and will improve with experience. T=top level player D=depends on injuries X=neither here nor there with form S= servicable
1. Roo T
2. Kozi T
3. Gram I
4. Montagna T N
5. SFisher T
6. Goddard I
7. Gilbert I
8. Attard I
10. Goose I N
11. Baker I X
12. Ball X D
13. Dal T N
14 Lenny T X
15 CJones I
16 LFisher I X
17 Fiora I N
18 Rix =S
19 Birss =X

I can't comment on the Casey mob as they have not had much game time, otherwise those not on the list, I don't think have a future.

I think you are wrong with Lenny his last 6 weeks have been excellent only behind Roo in that time.

I also think Lenny would be running second in B & F votes since the 1/2 way break

ALso I hope that order means nothing because it doesnt make sense if that is how they rate.
