Will Roo get AA berth?

Post: # 434394Post Winmarvellous »

Pavlich and Brown are both having great seasons, and I think Franklin may sneak in as FF (just a gut feeling). Either Steve or Brad Johnson will get a FP berth (guaranteed), and 3 CHF's don't usually make the cut. Who's been better, and let's not be biased.

franklin is not a ff or even a chf he's a flanker, the all australian team should be picked in positions. If franklin is picked as a FF it's wrong.

Didn't play the first three games, and then put in 2-3 ordinary games in the first half of the year.

His second half has been sensational, but this is an "odd year". Riewoldt never gets any honours in an odd year ...

2002, 2004, 2006 B&F
2004, 2006 All-Australian
2004 AFLPA MVP

etc.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

This is a good year to break that mould. If not, the selection process is corrupt !!

If so would Roo even be on the bench? Just a question, as J Brown and Pavlich have both been pretty good, and sit around us on the ladder. Brown has never got an AA berth, so is a shoe-in IMO. If going by position, that leaves Pavlich and Roo fighting it out for a berth on the bench.

Riewoldt CHF
Brown FF
Pavlich FP

Brown has been taking most of his marks cose to goal and Pavlich has also been playing deep for most of the season. Roo has been playing as a true CHF and doing it bloody well.

I'm not bagging Roo, just asking the question. Pav and Brown are both CHF's, not FF's, and all three are playing tremendous footy. I'm sure the judges will alter positions like they do every year (ie. Pavlich FP, Brown FF) but maybe they may throw a few curve balls. Who knows?

roo got a fp place last year so i would imagine they try and fit in the best 3 forwards of the year...or at least the best full forward, chf and the next best....

roo really isnt a forward pocket but then again neither was peter everitt who got it in 05...

go figure

From an unbiased point of view i think Roo would be 3rd behind both Brown and Pav.

I think the question remains...who will play FF?
Lloyd hasn't performed
Gehrig either
Neitz is injured
Does that leave Fevola? Has he earnt it??

I think if they think Fevola deserves the FF spot then Roo will struggle.
If they DONT think fevola deserves the FF spot, they will give it to Brown, then put Pav at CHF and Roo on the bench.
I also think Buddy Franklin will get a flank or a pocket.

NO......

Brown, Pavlich, Franklin have all kicked 50 plus.....and will be the tall fwds.....Scott Lucas had a great front half of the season...Reiwoldt has had a good back end.....but has not kicked enough goals......great player, not being done any favours by our GP.

A certain starter.

Forward line will be:

HF: Riewoldt - Pavlich - G Ablett
FF: B. Johnson - Brown - Franklin

Possible Lucas on the pine....gone missing as the Bombers have struggled.

I think they will go for one tall HFF so Roo may get in there.

Roo should be a starter. Can't see Ebert getting in the starting 18.

Both Pavlich and Brown have played closer to goal this year, which will give the AA selectors room to work their usual ... magic ... of fitting in the guys they want regardless of position... assuiming Reiwoldt is one of their priorities. IMO, Reiwoldt, Brown, Pavlich and Brad Johnson are head & shoulder's above this year.

To me, Franklin doesn't rate a selection. He's been good, but more of the showing us how good he can/will be than genuine superstar. Richo style, he's won a couple off his own boot, and lost a couple, not consistently good (not in the Reiwoldt, Brown, Pavlich level anyway). Steve Johnson missed 5 games which will probably count him out.

The other guys who may make things complicated are Scotty Lucas (only guy who rates a mention with the above 4 this year IMO, should win Essendon's B&F), Brett Ebert (South Australian selector will want this one, I might put some money on it), Brent Harvey (if not selected in the midfield), Gary Ablett (see Harvey), and Travis Cloke (doesn't rate, but he plays for Collingwood so will get the hype - and the selectors love to show how smart they are by selecting someone from left field).

I think he rates it, but won't be shocked if he doesn't get it.

Here's one from left field for ya....Brad Fisher.

Has kicked 35 goals so far this year in a team sitting 15th and missed 2-3 games with injury throughout the year. Has consistently kicked 2-3 goals a game and pound for pound is one of the best overhead pack marks in the league.

A potential AA birth if we want to overlook the traditional names.

There are 4 spots on the interchange bench for some of them that dont fill a position

If Ebert doesn't make AA he would be very unlucky and I think Port would have a reason to be pissed...
